A local BMW specialist near me which has a good reputation charges the following:-

E46 - 320, 323, 328, 330
Oil Service: £79.50, Inspection 1: £159.00, Inspection 2: £269.00
Less than I was expecting actually- Not a million miles from what Seat charges. I'm guessing any repairs will cost WAY more than the Leon tho!

Seat is Volkswagen and they are expensive. Bare in mind this is Bm specialist prices, if you go to a maindealer they will be a lot more.

Well I've been having a look around the trader and My God I'm tempted to get a 330i now- they just scream value for money (if I spend around £12- 13K)

Can anyone give me a rundown of the servicing costs?

Thanks

Budget around £500 per year for servicing costs as you'll get the odd fault that crops up from time to time meaing more labour and increased costs, that budget will get you a 2001 car with most of the extras except nav. you should get about 11K miles between services.

330i is a great first bm but the M3 is a whole lot more, infact one might say its better to give the M3 a try now whilst your still young, perhaps consider trying it for a year to see if its for you, you'll pay double the costs of the 330 though.

There is some truth in that.

How about an E36 M3? You could get a late coupe or even a convertible for the money although these are still expensive to run.

I went from one (wished I'd kept it, it was fantastic!) to a 330ci sport but couldn't adjust to the lack of power. The great chassis in the e46 made things even worse. It could have easily handled about 50+ Bhp. In the end it only lasted for 3 months before I got something quicker.

Even BMW Sytner is only £375 for the Inspection 2 on a 3yr old car.

Not 10K but at least £5K especially considering he's under 25.

Let's remember guys, he is only 23. A stepping stone up to the M3 might be more sensible, and insurance will be a hell of a lot cheaper on the 330, and the 330 will feel blisteringly quick.

I would imagine the 330 would only feel marginally quicker than the Leon Cupra I drive at the moment- the 0-60 difference is just over 1 sec.

I agree though- I think an M3 at my age is a bit much- both in terms of BHP and cost. With any luck my salary should have more than doubled in 4 years so I think that would be the time to move on up to an M3/ M5, as I will be able to comfortably afford to run it and I will be that much more experienced.

The insurance and running costs all seem quite reasonable on the 330i- definatley less than I expected. I just need to work out whether or not to shell out the £5,000- 6,000 to actually do it, or just hang on to the Cupra!

Thanks for the help!

Just read your thread- can you share some piccies of your 330Ci please? GSXRMovistar and NickXX have already shared theirs and I'd love to take a look at the ones OCUK members have :p

Oh by the way I have seen the pics of the 330Ci with the Superleggaras in the other thread...... Well it just so happens I have some 18" Superleggaras on my Cupra. I don't suppose by some amazing coincidense the Beemers and Seats share the same PCD? as the 330Ci looks AMAZING with Superleggaras?

PS Is it worth me looking at the Ci? What are the main differences other than one has 2 more doors than the other?

Thanks

Thats pretty much the difference - it's simply the Coupe version although somebody else will know more technical stuff. I've actually only driven Coupe 3 Series and can't find a Saloon to play with so I've not had experience of the differences.

The Saloon is cheaper becuase it's not as sought after. Take advantage of this unless you particularly enjoy the looks of the Coupe.

But remember, if its fun you are after this evenings threads show that you would be better off with something like a Fiat Sciento.

That is about the main difference. The cars are pretty much identical underneath. Oddly though, pretty much every panel is a different size between the saloon and coupe, so you can't go swapping bits such as bootlids, etc. The coupe tends to command a premium over the saloon - it's down to your budget, and then what you prefer the looks of.

Just been looking around Pistonheads... It seems better value than Auto Trader Does something like this sound like good value?

That seems about right to me. :)

Has shed loads of extras too. Electric seats, phone prep, leather, HK stereo were all expensive options. Note that it appears to have the MV1 alloys in the pics and not the MV2 alloys that it states. Doesn't make much of a difference, but you might be able to use it to knock some cash off.

I thought about it, but if they were removed a little bodywork would be needed plus I actually don't mind the way it looks, I don't think they stand out too much as everything else on the car is either red or black plus when viewing from the rear it makes the car look like it's sitting even wider.

Running cost can be high on the M3 if things go wrong

A set of OEM discs are £750, tyres are around £1000 A service II is £1000 from most stealers and £700-800 from Indis'

But is maintained the engine in these are pretty bullet proof and once warmed up fully can be driven as hard as you like. They are very over engineered and can take around 500bhp with little to no internal modifications.

Lunching the engine will cost about 8-12k to replace but if you look after her this will never be an issue. The guy from Thorney Motorsport who is tuning my car loves these engines and said that in all his years of working on them he has only seen one failed engine and that was due to the owner (idiot) not getting the crank shell recall done (so always check that has been done).

BMW all the way :D

Can anyone say "Pic Whore time!"

On your budget if you like the looks you can get one like my old one which is only marginly slower and still a looker in my book.
