This Business and Moment...

Interview in the private sector next week, not sure what to expect as I've been a Civil Servant for a long time.

Sizeable pay rise and oppourtunity so I'm slightly nervous.

I know this sounds daft, but try to wipe the pay rise from your list of factors that make you nervous.

1) You only know what you know
2) They only know what you've insinuated that you know
3) If they didn't think you were at least a 75% fit then it's massively unlikely that you'd be getting an interview
4) They are offering what THEY think you are worth, probably less.

I interviewed for a job which was a 17k pay rise and it was consuming me, so I just tried to completely shut it out like it wasn't a factor using the above thought process.

Cracking advice thanks Lopez, I think you are right - I'm getting hung up on the salary side/organisation and glossing over what I know and what I can deliver.

My new job is a 33% pay rise on base salary, current salary being much lower can just mean you've not seen many/any pay rises over a few years and/or have moved sideways rather than up. Think of it as a 're-adjustment' to where you should be :D

This applies to me perfectly - I got a single 5% pay rise (as did everyone) at my previous job which I was at for 4 years, then a 7% pay rise going to a new role a year ago, then this 33% rise going to my new role in 3 weeks time. So although in total it's a 50% rise, that's over 5 years.

(£20k to £21k, £21k to £22.5k, and finally £22.5k to £30k if anyone wants the actual figures).

Nice!! Bet you can't wait now.

We met architects yesterday and had an offer accepted... arghhh... now got to work out how to do this lol
Yep! I've got that itch where I am desperate to get around there and begin figuring out next steps like furniture etc but just have to wait.

Fortunately I have a trip to Ireland in the middle of it all which will take up some of the time nicely :)

Best of luck with your venture/project. Got any plans to show us?

Ah so its just a matter of semantics, jolly good :D

It is great fun to nerd out with plans for things like that isn't it? I am in talks with a guy to sort out my "TV area" for my new place as well :D

...it's going to have 7 speakers and 2 subwoofers, but yeah its just a TV area :D

I only have the issue of being able to afford it now lol we have a budget, need to get that from the banks at the best rate. Should not cost us more per month than we pay currently in rent. Well, not a lot more and by the time it's finished, the mortgage on our apartment will be finished, so we'll be better off if anything. Just that initial outlay.
Trying to reign everything in, no spending a thing. Our budgets are tight AF. Don't panic... don't panic...

That's exactly what I did, thought of it as bringing me in line with what I should have been earning already. Worked for me!

Have a big meeting scheduled with an important client tomorrow - One of which emailed asking it to be moved because he couldn’t make it - Assuming the meeting was due to be moved, I got excited about taking tomorrow off work - Just got an email to say we’ll proceed with the meeting without them :(

Back to preparing... :p

So it turns out it's ******* knackering running a company  :D

We've continued to hire, so now have five in the business. Making headway, but it's just non-stop - having a baby (due date tomorrow) and trying to sell our flat/buy a house at the same time. I'm. So. Tired.

Planning to open up a NYC desk in a couple of months, and add a further member of staff in London early summer. I think I'm hitting the phase of my life where I don't sleep for the next twenty years!

Day 1 of working from home today after two weeks of training/induction (and getting fat on expenses :o)

Everything I saw while I was training made it seem like exactly the type of job I hoped it would be. An expectation not to work more than 9-5 and generally lower stress. Ideal.
