This Business and Moment...

I found out today that I've got the promotion I applied for at work, the rise of 11.2% seems a little bitter sweet, as I imagine they've used our annual pay rise which is also due now to reduce the promotion pay rise figure somewhat. But I do get an increase in bonus (17% to 20%) and another £100 a month for my car allowance and more RSUs. Take home wise it's going to make very little difference as I'm going to put any extra into my pension.

What it does do is open up more doors internally, as it's very rare to promote into a new role via an internal move and all of the roles I had considered were a grade above what I was. Also, if I do move externally it gives me more negotiating power due to the job title.
Awesome man! Congratulations!

Not sure what happened but I've had five calls in one day. Perhaps the LinkedIn also decided I needed a boost?

Some interesting ops and I have a CPTO interview for tomorrow.

Congrats! I think most people feel the same "very little to show for it" when it comes to pay rises.

If you're earning enough to be in the 60% tax trap make sure you look into it to minimise your tax liability but it sounds like you're already doing that.

Wish I had a car allowance as I'd definitely go for an plug in hybrid or electric.

Thanks. Someone who joined at the same time as me in the same role, joined on a lower salary. He's moved internally at the same grade (renegotiated salary) and with his pay rise this year we are within a few k of each other, even though I'm a grade higher. Although we are on different bonus schemes (he's a fixed amount per quarter, I'm on a salary percentage which is paid at 100% of company performance - if the company performs well my bonus is larger (likewise if we have a bad year) Promotion is more about job title and unlocking the extra perks which I've mentioned rather than mega lol salary rises (unless director or C level I guess).

Yeah something I'm already aware of and I'll be adjusting pension contributions to suit.

It's essentially a salary top up (taxed) previously worth £6.6K a year and now worth £8k. There's no car schemes or any requirement as long as the car isn't detrimental to the company perception or some such (I can't remember the wording). Most people rock about in 15 year old Civic's as there's very little travel to customers and when there is, they very rarely see the cars we drive. It pays for what I owe on my M3.

If we had an electric scheme with the mega tax savings I'd be driving a Taycan!

I used to have car allowances but no need for them now. Tycan would definitely be there!

Yeah internal gradings can be interesting. Someone on the lower grade to me is same status in terms of title but his max salary is the cut off of my band's lower salary. Currently we're 2k apart, yet I have delegated authority to sign off more things owing to my grade. It's all just political really, well that and I guess they need gradings to give people places to move and grow.

The car allowance is different to any company car scheme; may be worth a further Google on your company portal? We all get car allowances and have for years, I only learnt a few months back we had an EV scheme that was totally distinct to our car allowance payment.

I'd imagine if I moved into another role at my grade, or into a pre-sales role, that's where I'd see a noticeable jump to my salary.

There's nothing in our portal about EV schemes, I've searched everywhere. It's just a salary bolt on really. Pretty annoying to be honest, as I mentioned above I'd be all over a Taycan if we did have one!

Congrats mate, Staff Arch now?

Interview yesterday was a little bit of a shambles - inside IR35 the end client is good, the intermediary professional services company hasn't described the job well and I found out at the last minute the interview would be with the end client from the independent recruiter.

Been looking at ways I can get out of working deep sea on LNG carriers, and stumbled across this ad for offshore wind turbine technicians, so, spruced up my CV, drafted a cover letter and fired off an email using the link in the ad, twice now. However, I keep getting the following response about 12 hours later:

Does this site seem genuine, or have I just handed over a shed load of personal data to a recruitment fraud website?
