This Business and Moment...

Sounds like they've used it as an excuse to keep budget down.

Well that post deletion is seemingly being used to fund a new post that's at a higher grade. And several of the other new posts are at higher grades too. Plus it means we'd be down a person and if they got their way of 2.5 fte then it would just be a disaster.

Muzza - have you considered BT / Openreach? I used to work for BT before I ended up here at Microsoft. I have helped a few of my friends with CVs etc to get in the door as field engineers which seems like it would be right up your street? I see you are from West Lothian, not sure if we have chatted before but I would be happy to help if you want to reach out via trust

Cheers,
Blair

Hi mate yea that would be amazing. anything to get my foot in the door. thanks

How to deal with this?

Had a job close to home but was awful, going no where, had a micromanaging manager and it was a living hell.

Been looking on and off for a number of years and luckily found somewhere offering the same pay but 30 mins away from home.

I took the job and have been there a few weeks but the wife has been kicking off and constantly having a dig saying it was a bad decision and basically calling me selfish.

What the hell do I do?

Need more context. Why is the wife calling you selfish?

Is it because you are more spending more on committing, therefore have less for yourselves each month?

If so I'd say your wife is being the selfish one. Valuing whats in the bank more over your own happiness at work. Especially if you're not struggling.

Selfish because I took a job to make me happier 30 mins drive away meaning I'm home 25 mins later than before. Apparently she now has to do everything. (cook the food for girls)

I just told her to deal with it.

I think the main reason is she doesn't like where she works but because they are so flexible so she can be with girls she stays there,

I'm selfish because I'm thinking of myself and I'm now somewhere where I'm home 25 mins later so I spend 25 mins less with my girls.

It's not just thinking about yourself though is it? It's your career which is ultimately about your family as well, so it's not just about what YOU want, it's you for them. And she's being incredibly selfish if she wants you to be unhappy for 25minutes. Find a way of making it work, do some of the things you can't at the time once you're in. Talk about what exactly is the issue and see if you can come to a common understanding.

We have too much work for the resource we have at emotuit. I need someone who is good at front end dev, such as js, css, etc, as well as knows their way around ruby and picks up things quickly!
We have no money, so it'd be part time for equity until we could afford you.

We're awesome with awesome tech...

/wishful thinking

I've looked at Emotuit online. If I had the skills I'd be all over it like a rash. But alas, coding is not my thing :p :(, nevermind!

So maybe I am jinxing it, but here goes anyway.

Yesterday I got a new connection on LinkedIN from an IT Outsourcing company based here in Lisbon. They're actually 2 doors down from where I work now.

The contact then messaged me asking me if I am looking for work as they have a large offshoring project coming up and need someone of my skills. So I said sure, sent her my CV, we exchanged a few emails and that was it.

Then late evening, about 7pm the woman calls me and explains the role a bit more. She said its doing an SCCM project for a very large company with 14,000 users! She didn't give specifics but I am guessing its an SCCM upgrade/overhaul as a company of that size HAS to have something in place already.

She said the client is looking to move quickly and I could hear back as soon as today! - they have my CV and want to get the ball rolling. I fit all the requirements etc. I would be working for the outsourcing company but subcontracted to the client.

Money is good, double what I am on now. No other details such as holiday etc have been discussed yet. But we'll see what happens.

Fingers crossed! :)

I've got this weird feeling. I am THIS close to finding something else and being on a happier path.

Will post updates.

So heres an update. Towards the end of last week I had a phone call from the IT Outsourcing company saying their client was requesting more information surrounding SCCM skills. So I added a page describing previous projects and what I specifically did in SCCM at each placed I worked at.

This morning I had a phone call asking me to do a 30min technical phone interview on Thursday! :D hoorah!

Naturally, I said yes :p

ton of revision coming up this week for me...as if I wasn't busy enough :o

While the US guys have been off, it's meant we can't troubleshoot an issue we're having on their staging environment with our plugin. It's weird as we don't see it on our systems... always a joy!
Since we had a few days until we get an account sorted from them, I've pushed another small feature through. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have fully added the new tutorial feature, that takes you through all the functionality on the dashboard. Trying to iron out any issues people have understanding anything, and making it easy as possible to provide feedback to us basically.

Basically just intro.js and implemented a zendesk widget for support requests too. I like seeing tickets get completed. If only they were as quick as I wanted, too!

STILL haven't heard back about this job I applied and apparently was shortlisted for... guy said he's catching up with them on Weds. Seems a bit odd it's so long since it's a contract position!

I really want to do a linkedin rant about people not getting back to applicants regarding jobs they have applied for.

Maybe we can make it viral? :p

It drives me nuts, as with you, it's similar feeling the external pressure about getting something else.

Yup. There pressure isn't so much right now. We're too excited about something else. But I'll be a lot happier if I get this other role. Can breathe a bit more.

I'm gathering info to revise for my technical phone interview tomorrow. Only 30mins apparently so shouldn't be too grilling. But I'll be well prepped all the same.

Well 10 years of being in my current area comes to end on the 17th of December.

Currently have between 17and 22 applications out for jobs, also looking at some training course's aswell to try and get more skills in my back pocket.

If any has a need for a data and reporting type person please feel free to trust me.

At least you're getting interviews, I am hearing nothing back at all :(

12 days though, that's not too bad and in my experience, when I used to get interviews, they would always let those they interviewed know what was going on.
