This Business and Moment...

Yea, I get you. I'm just trying to see how to turn it all into a positive outcome in the end. It will be what it will be. Doesn't mean I won't fight it, just means I won't let it consume me and define me and my life.
Maybe the road trip I'll be going on is a different one. I have a really cool idea for a US trip, so this might be where it takes me instead first.

Up to us how we decide to let something affect us and for how long.

All adds to the spice of life :D keeps us learning
Is this your elaborate way of bottling the Russia trip after all the hecklers in the motors sub? I'm outraged you gave up so easily :D :o (love you really)

Oh it'll happen, I just can't get a new car by the time I wanted to go, so it'll have to be postponed. I have another idea for that time and to do with my son in place of it for now. While I try and battle these insurance / company ********

Considering a course from Said at Oxford. Comes as a CPD classification so it may be a good way to invest looking forward. I can also add to the CV and differentiate from other CVs.

Any one do any of these 6 week courses? This would be AI.

The local electrical company have cut our power this morning and are doing it again on Wednesday. Which they told us about on Saturday. Thanks for the notice guys! Good thing I didn't have any work to do

A couple of months ago we had 2 days of back to back outages in the area. 4 in one day. then two the next morning - all unplanned issues.

Going to talk to Oxford this morning. The Mrs has given it the thumbs up but just need to see the structure and if it will fit my schedule.

This would be a massive red flag for me if it's this early on and they're being like this. How easy do you think it'll be down the line?

Well if they sell the office they’ll have no choice. According to non-HR staff they do 2-3 days in office currently and it’s closed on Fridays.

I can see it from the companies perspective in the sense of not wanting the complexity of staff on differing contracts; opening the door to expense claims etc.

Reading up on a few HR websites it seems it may not be an issue anyway as it becomes an implied term over time; and if they did try to enforce a RTO to somewhere new I’d just quit. If I don’t take the CFO and my boss (who I know from a previous job) at their word it’ll just poison the job for me.

The good old switcheroonie. Any contractural clauses I get agreed in email before jumping ship. Email being rather more legally binding than a my word vs your word. They can spout that anything non-contractural is not legally binding but the emails are part of the contractual agreement resulting in the formalisation within the contract itself.

I don't mind unplanned outages so much - if they have urgent repairs to make, so be it - what peeves is that they've been doing work in the area for months, and working at the local substation for the past few weeks and they still couldn't manage a decent amount of notice.

Ok.. I'm enrolled and very much looking forward to being a mini-student for the 6 week course :D
Each module has an assignment too.. so not had that pressure for a number of years :D

Great, there is now a second round of interviews for a job I am already doing! They are either doing this to make it appear fair or they genuinely don’t want me in the job, despite constant praise from the top! It’s actually a bit of a blow, I’m curious what the next round actually entails. I’ve been here before too and last time didn’t get the job, so I’m trying to manage that in my mind too.

It seems that everwhere is in a “we can cull workforce and worry about it later”.
Talked to someone that “left” my old place - turns out he didn’t leave but <2y he got the push too.

Quick question.

My current (soon to be ex company) has just announced a retrospective pay rise back dated to March this year of 5%.

However it has been inferred that since the announcement was made after I handed my notice in that I'm not eligible. Technically I'm still employed just on notice.

Would be a shame to miss out on a little bit of extra cash.

50% of the team are at risk. The amount of "open for work" from my colleagues on LinkedIn in is awful. The Glassdoor reviews over the past 3 years have been appalling.

What’s the question?!

Pay rises and bonuses/variable comp are primarily for retention, it wouldn't make any sense to give them to people who are leaving the company already unless there was a contractual obligation to do so.

Even though the payrise is backdated back to March? i.e. I should have got it from March but the agreement only came through owing to the new budget.

Have to say I'm not going to miss the public sector.

Is it right that I'm not eligible? Had I stayed and been made redundant (which would have happened) I'd have been eligible.
I’m fairly sure once you hand in your notice, then yeh that’s it - you lose all eligibility for bonuses, raises etc.
Might even be in your contract or a staff handbook
