This Business and Moment...

It's been an hour... no update from Phate?

wonder what's going on? :D

Seems to be like there everywhere Mr^B, in most places as well it seems to be the useless ones with brown noses that do well over the hard working ones.

Hostage situation?

He's been avoiding the team/his desk since getting back from lunch. Constantly in and out of the meeting room.

We're wondering if he has found out and is somehow processing it :p

Either way. If by 5pm it hasn't happened the letter will be left on his desk and him to find it and that is that :p

OK, it's done!

He said he was surprised. He remained calm and we agreed my last day (the 24th) and he asked if there was anything he could do to change my mind and I just played the "Well it's Microsoft" trump card.

Going to have a meeting next week to sort out handover etc. So he seems to be being an adult about it. But one of the other team approached him about something afterwards and he seems like he's in a bad mood now.

Oh well! All done. 40mins and I'm out of here :D

Interesting times at the moment, thought I'd share. The missus quit her job before Christmas, retail management, long story short it was crap pay for 12 hours a day and deteriorating mental health. She's now looking for part time work to allow her to pay her side of the mortgage whilst trying to make a go as a self employed silver smith making bespoke silver jewellery. She's bloody good at it but I'm somewhat concerned that I'm now going to have to work out how to do accounts, I know precisely nothing about operating as a sole trader.

To top it off my place is going through a restructure, I'm told they want to keep me, preferably in a higher paid role, but the whole process has been handled so poorly that I'm currently throwing my CV at anyone who gives me a sideways glance like some kind of over enthusiastic lady of the night.

It's interesting times, the money situation is incredibly tight but I feel quite positive about our direction of travel.

I spoke with Roger, the professor on Friday for 2 hours. I love the guy. He's the one who's studied emotion, engagement and learning links for 10 years and would love to be a part of what we're doing. After a good chat, he's coming on board as an equity partner and I'm drawing up the contracts at the moment... fun times!! Well excited to be honest, he's sucha good person to have on board.

Sounds awesome Ross!

I am currently have a small dilemma. For the new role I'll be setting up a proper area at home to work due to being able to WFH as much as I like. I know I'll be given a laptop and a mobile, but that's it. I need to buy a desk etc. Now I'm currently undecided between having a single large 27-30" widescreen monitor, or getting 2 x 24" monitors.

But I intend to mount whatever I get on monitor arms, so I need to decide before I buy anything! :p

Such first world problems! :p

Go with dual monitors. Nothing beats the ability to have one app open fullscreen in a separate place, for reference.

I like multiple monitors, but that's probably because I've not had anything else.

We're moving soon and the wife has found a house she likes and says we need to look etc. it doesn't look like it will have an office, which I have said is a prerequisite. She said I can have one at the side of a room like the lounge... I put my foot down and said no, I need to be able to talk on the phone without people wandering about and coming in. No chance.
I can't wait to have a proper space to kit out more.

I hear ya. I'll be having this in the lounge for the time being. But we're looking to buy a place possibly next year. My aim is to have a dedicated office as well.

Well I've used multiple monitors for years and always liked it. But I can't help but think a really large single widescreen would be adequate.

I'll probably just get 2 x 24" ones and be done with it. I might splash out and get curved ones cos they look cool :p

2x27" nothing beats having a dual monitor setup when using multiple apps the same time. (or 1 screen for work & 1 for ocuk forum :o )

you'd think so, i currently run 1x 27'' for autocad and 1x 24'' for database stuff
sadly wish i had bigger than 27'' for autocad :(

granted it depends on what you're working on. When editing photos for example, the bigger the screen, the better! Loved working on my 27" iMac when I had that. Beautiful display.
