This Business and Moment...

Just booked my flight for South Carolina on 2nd June. Only trip in June, which is good, but I need to present at a conference, so need to write that to start.
Supposed to be in Portugal with the family from 15th - 22nd July but I'm also due to be in Mexico for work, getting back on 15th July, and I'm not planning my flights for that so I'm still waiting on hearing when I arrive before I can book Portugal. Last thing I want to do is **** the wife off even more.

Slowly getting the devops in order internally... slowly. Also slowly starting to get things in order with our new CFO, and now need to get all this paperwork out the way, then get through all these new potential candidates to interview as well and then I need to get back to trying to sell the **** out of this stuff. :/

Arghh tax can be such a horribly complicated subject. So many provisions and exemptions, common law rulings and equivocal terminology... best just to refer everything to the tax team tbh. Not surprised so many people fail their tax exams!

I suppose by horribly complicated - I actually mean 'difficult to be sure you have the correct answer quickly'.

Interesting though - would deffo consider heading down a tax route.

Just been for a promotion interview, smashed it. If I don't get offered the job it isn't because I let myself down it's because someone was better than me - I'm okay with that.

Best interview I have had in a long time, spent 4 days doing prep work and it paid off as I was very confidant and handled to competency based questions very well.

Fingers crossed I will hear before tomorrow afternoon and have been successful.

Well cancel that - just got the call! I GOT THE JOB...yes!!

Question: I have a meeting penciled in to go and discuss some changes to a client website they wish to do, now would people here charge for time spent in the meeting?

Only reason I ask is I have been asked what I will charge for my time on this day.

I already have an inkling of what I am going to do but I'm interested in hearing a variation of thoughts on it from people.

Applied for a job in Glasgow on Wednesday night, closing date was yesterday afternoon. My application was something of a rush job so I wasn't hopeful, but got an email today inviting me to an interview! Very pleased, got all of next week to prepare for it so I'm hopeful.

Not been in here for a while, so much going on including a company re-brand. I'll have a read through and catch up later on.

Some good news from me.

A job had been appearing for a while on my searches for an application support analyst at a company called Synetics Solutions.

I decided that what the hell, I'm going to apply and see what happens. Applied last Friday, several emails on Tuesday with their recruitment team and they passed my application over the team TL. Had a call today for an interview next Thursday :) It's a 2 hour interview with a test.

It's basically a 1st line helpdesk position using SQL/databases and it's shifts, but it's with a proper tech based company so room to grow and expand. salary + shift allowance is what I wanted here and was turned down and even with the travel i'll be better off. More holidays, better perks. Seems like a great company, HR girl I spoke to was lovely.

So I've a week to hit the studying for SQL and throw in some bootstrap, jquery and C#

Fingers crossed!!!

is there any good way to ask about pay for an advertised job, I don't need to ask any questions about the actual job just need to know what the pay is, I know it will be low but need to know exactly how low and see if I can financially afford to do it.

Is it through a recruiter? If so I'd just ask them directly for the range.

no the contact given is the manager.

Well I guess you could ask during an initial phone interview, or they might well ask what you're currently on. Are you expecting to have to take a pay cut to move to this role or something?

If it is in your general industry I'd be tempted to go along and meet with them anyway, if it turns out to be too low then turn them down, if you make a good impression then maybe something more suitable could be available with them in future.

a massive pay cut, its a trainee position in a different industry. But something i'm actually interested in.

ah in that case I'd be less concerned about the pay and more about future prospects, so long as it covers living expenses - I'd go along to the interview and if it is really low then try to push for a bit more given that you've got significant work experience, transferable skills are taking a pay cut etc..etc..

So I just got back from an interview to be considered for a spot on a training course which will give me Specialist Leader in Education status.

As far as I am aware it's quite a rare role and involves walking into schools and working with them to improve their Computer Science departments. I'm being interviewed for the course which will give me the qualification. I then have to wait for the role to appear and apply for that.

I was by far the youngest there and the 4 stage interview was a timed coaching session, followed by an NLE interview, followed by a presentation and then a final panel interview.

I feel drained! All this and no guarantee of a promotion at the end makes me question it but hey ho, onwards and upwards!
