This Forum. Why so basic?

I'm a member of many forums and this is one of the biggest yet most basic i've seen. The default blue which which is just vile and if i'm not mistaken, the only way to change it is to user a browser plugin, then you've got no private message system, no custom avatar choice, no extra smilies and the biggest one for me is the no simple way to embed a youtube video. (yes i do know how but what a load of faffing about)

So why is a computer forum that specialises in high end computers and have tens of 1000's of members have the most basic forum out there?

Try looking at the League of Legends forums is you want basic.

Wouldn't mind a quick-key option for youtube embeds though.

I very much like the fact we have fixed avatars, limited sigs, and a very simple theme.

if you aint happy, there are other computer forums out there. it works and does what it needs to do. we don't need private messaging, we have 'trust', we don't need custom avatars as ocuk use a theme which works well. extra smilies you can add yourself if you so wish.

I thought you could easily embed youtube videos with youtube /youtube

Yeah, typing out youtube in brackets twice and cutting the video id which all takes about 10 seconds is so much hassle.

I wouldn't say imbedding a youtube video was a faff on here, just a simple copy and paste into the youtube command seems straightforward to me

I like the fact the forum is simple, I hate forums that have no structure to them and let you have sigs the size of a 17" screen, stupid avatars and a colour scheme that looks like a cat has coughed up a hairball on it.

FWIW I use the black colour scheme at work and the blue at home (mainly because I haven't bothered to install the plugin

) and both are perfectly fine for the purpose. Having a simple forum, I think, allows those not so tech savvy an easy way in and not feel intimidated by having a forum that could look to go way over their head

It's the quality of the advice that counts not how the forum looks.

I don't know about General Discussion but if you pop over to the hardware section you'll get good advice.

By far the nicest forum on the net. I hate ones that are really cluttered.

You should try the 'Log Out' option towards the top right of the screen.

That will solve your issues.

There is nothing worse than forums that allow all kinds of garish animated gifs as avatars, along with huge sigs full of garbage. I like it here that you get a small amount of customisation so you can easily spot who's who without it getting in the way of reading the posts.
