This Forum. Why so basic?

Think the problem is that it constantly tells you that you can install the app with a popup. IOS does a popup when you go to a taptalk enabled forum.

Maybe if there was a way to turn off said popup in the taptalk settings on the forum side maybe it would be a good compromise?

I see, didn't know there was a pop-up for people not using it.

Ok so you remove the tapatalkdetect.js file from the server and no popup's for anyone but its still enabled for those that want to use it :)

What defines a forum as 'basic' or 'rich'? I was under the impression that vBulletin was fairly middle of the road. My favourite software for a forum was Invision Power Board (Sundissential used it), but I think that vBulletin works well too. Thesite.org uses it as well.

Maybe the OP prefers stuff like Facebook and Twitter, but I've always been a forum person.

IMO the "basic" appearance of this forum is one of the keys to its success. It makes it accessible and clean.

I wouldn't be averse to more smilies and a PM system though, not that I care too much about it as I wouldn't really use them.

I like it personally, I can't stand cluttered web-sites. On here I can find the posts I want quickly and easily with minimal hassle. Also as its fairly minimal it works on my phone absolutely fine with minimal data useage and without having to install yet another crappy app to browse the forum in a manner that works for a phone. (Only thing thats a little tricky on a phone is the "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8..." page links on threads.)

Like most have commented so far I like the layout and design of this forum.

Everything seems clean and easy to navigate and read.

Also is ideal for browsing on my phone in 3g.

Wouldn't want to see it changed for the worse.

With the new vbulletin it can still be clean and have the same scheme just with much more features, they could use the vbulletin suite to bring more integration from the shop to forum, or have blogs etc on overclocking, better user reviews, so much more possibilities.

I imagine it would be a mammoth job to upgrade tho :D

and would be excess stuff 99% of people would use or want.

this is the thing, just because something CAN be done, doesn't mean it SHOULD be done.

so what if other forums have a million different avatars, fancy buttons for useless features etc, it doesn't make them a better forum, just a different one.

I would think a lot of users would like hands on reviews, build logs etc
