The problem is that the human mind can't distinguish the difference between hearing the same argument 10 times from one person & one time from 10 people.
The actual number of racist people in the UK has reduced, but the remaining ones are more vocal - ironically this makes them feel as though they are some "silent majority" when in reality they are despised by almost everybody.
What's sad is that some people I've known from other races have not fully appreciated this & tend to think that on average the people of the UK are more racist than they are (based on the above fact).
Considering we are all African if you go back far enough the entire concept of racial identity & stupid & meaningless.
Humans are all pretty much the same, the problem is cultures & society - genetically the differences are insignificant.
This is usually where I part ways with most of my liberal friends, I don't respect cultures at all, neither do I believe in shielding cultural or religious ideals - they should be challenged when they are in breach of an individuals rights. (Many foreign nations/religions attitudes to women & homosexuals for example)
People have rights, not nations/institutions/cultures or religions.
The only sad thing is, that it's only the racists & the fundamentalists (on both sides) which seem to be pointing out some of the real & dangerous flaws of other cultures (while hypocritically ignoring there own & making a few up also as usual).
We can (collectively) strongly criticise cultures/traditions & ideas without actually holding negative points of view about individuals, or holding any racist points of view - but I've noticed people tend to either sway too far to the racist side - or simply live in ignorance & deny that certain cultures cause pointless suffering.
