Got another promotion (stripe) at our annual grading at my Dojo. Feel super humbled by it. I've stepped up a little more and done a few competitions (won some lost some) but it's hard work but for some reason I can't get enough.

A few minor niggles and injuries but they come and go.

So as a reminder to all get out of your comfort zone. Don't strive for perfection strive for progress. I may not be the best but I'm getting better than I was. My frame of reference is my own journey. It's thrilling.

Congratulations!

My father in law recently went to Okinawa for his grading. Looked insane!

I have no idea what i have done with my knee/leg.

Got out of the shower (its over the bath) and my leg gave way in the process. The outer side hurts were it bends. Same goes for the inner side. Then imagine drawing two straight lines from the bends to ankles. There is tenderness all down there.

Debating whether today should be classed as a holiday with work. Flown back to the UK, but then met up with a mate in Manchester. He's now left and i'm sat on my laptop in a bar "working" until half 5 when another mate should arrive to continue drinking.

The downside being i'm now lonely for an hour and keep seeing GMT+1 on my laptop and not realising :(

2 yewts around 15 or so asked me for the time last night.

I tell them 5 past 11...
The guy asks to see the digits because he doesn't know what that means...
are people really that dumb? my watch face showed 23:06 so probably didn't help them much.

must have been in the UK since birth too from the accents, people don't learn how to tell the time at school?

twenty to the hour, twenty past the hour etc surely isn't outdated language now?

It’s amusing. We were doing time in Spanish class the other week and the teacher was saying the current generations struggling with “quarter to 5” because they need to be told “ four forty five” as they don’t do analogue clock readings.

I’d done some app based time stuff which was always the latter so weird for her to have taught the traditional way.

people don't know what a quarter is? or how many minutes is in an hour?

These are simple maths people should be able to do in their head, probably before they even reach secondary school.

Makes me wonder if half the population would be able to handle cash, maybe that's why the youths don't like it, they must feel like tourists wondering how much it's worth.

Can imagine someone working on a till and not getting it when some oap asks if they want the 5pence

Think their brain just doesn’t process it as easily as you’d expect. Same as you had people struggling with “5 past”

I’m on my 5th pint. This isn’t looking promising for tomorrow….

Hmmm not going to plan. I was eyeing up a 8pm train but just ordered another round!

Lot of people in Christmas do mode and getting carried away!

five and twenty past, or five and twenty to, would fry their brains completely.

Do you drink a lot of coffee during the day? Do you feel less sick after having a coffee?

If so, could be you’re drinking too much caffeine and have withdrawal. I feel like this sometimes.
Hmm, in the past probably but I've been mostly caffeine free for a year or two.

I do wonder if I just need to learn to get more sleep but I've never got along with bed before 12am.

Set my alarm for 6.30 last night, already walked the 30 minutes to station and sat on a train. Why do I always feel so rough and queasy when I get up early
:(

I always feel rough and queasy if I have to get up early against the tide of my sleeping pattern (such as it is). Mostly I think it is because your body thinks you should be in a deep sleep state. Conversely if my sleeping pattern happens to coincide with early rising (~5am) it is when I'm at my most productive by an order of magnitude. Forcing yourself to sleep won't help.

I've found effervescent tablets help a bit though not a magic bullet - high strength vitamin D seems to help with sleeping and vitamin C/energy/rehydration tablets seem to help with getting going, I've been caffeine free for almost 2 years and it hasn't really made any difference for me, but it never really had much effect on me anyhow.

Yeah I never felt it did much, and had caffeine until bedtime for years. Although now, I do feel it would mess up my sleep/energy levels if I start again!

Getting older is weird.

I haven't really been posting properly recently, life is very busy, but in good news, after today I will have a somewhat working kitchen for the first time in about a month and half :D Well apart from power, but that's being sorted Thurs/Fri
We have a kitchen, they're finishing off cornice and plinths today, worktops sadly delayed until the new year, so have got some 12mm ply as our worktop over Christmas.

Now we await for the sparky to show up and get everything second fixed and certed out today :D

Was so nice after so long to have a working tap and sink last night, we'd been limited to the bathroom sink upstairs as the utility is our downstairs toilet and that's also been fitted out...

“Good things come to those who wait” I am sure you will enjoy once all the dust settles and everything finish to your specification

Honestly it's been 3 years now, almost to the day since I completed on the house, we have had a full rewire, new double glazed sash windows, all new heating system (except boiler as that's already a beauty Viessmann), new bathroom and kitchen, just got the last couple of rooms to do and then it's complete.

Moved to my dream house two weeks ago. Detached, big garden, very large double garage, so I can work on my cars and carry on building my drag car after 4+ years. Finally starting to settle in after fixing 6 people's shopping list worth of issues due to neglect from an absolute 'c' of a previous owner, to spite his ex wife during a divorce.

It took a year for this whole process starting from December 2023. This house we just moved to, we wanted since March this year, it sold the day before mine did. Found somewhere else, needed everything doing to it, more expensive than the one we wanted, no garage. Turns out it was absolutely busted, pulled out, house we wanted originally came up for sale and sold again. We managed to get it in the end, 30k less than the one we almost bought and about 100k less than they were asking for it 2 years ago, due to them living in the 2020/2021 dream land. It probably is worth what they were asking when we've finished doing it up, not In the state I moved in to it though!

It's been a hell of a stressful year, probably one of the worst ones I can remember in my 38 years, I went through a divorce a couple of years ago too, and had similar things to deal with!

Finally starting to feel like I can get on with the rest of my life after 4-5 years, and that is a very weird feeling. I feel as if i have just been floating through life, the past 4-5 years trying to get back on track.

Hope everyone else is getting there!

Yeah it's really not fun, I have done everything else myself apart from this kitchen, it's been nice to be able to not worry too much, but simple changes have still meant I ended up helping to board the room as one of the guys called in sick and we had the plasterer booked.

We only have temporary worktops and this is just part of it, will put the bins back in once the earth bonding has been done today, and waiting on one unit, and a new door from DIYK

In German, "half six" means 5:30 not 6:30. I will never get used to it.
