This is the start of the end... lol.. well I hope not.

oh and not drinking beer. ;)

This has happened easier than I expected. So far its been 12 days without any booze. And as Gibbo, and other people who know me well know that I really love booze! I drank a beer almost every day prior to this new lifestyle change :)

Well todays food was

Brekkie - Plain porridge, with orange juice.
Lunch - Prawn and noodle salad, with bottle of water.
Dinner - Gammon and new potatoes with mushrooms, bottle of water.
Evening snack - wholemeal toast with no butter, but philidaphia light.

Better?

That's not a lot of food. You'll loose weight on that, but too fast, meaning you'll be dropping lean muscle mass too. It's easier if you track the calories, have you got yourself myfitnesspal app? It's very easy to use.

You've listed bottles of water, I hope you actually drink more than that throughout the day.

Those bottles are 2litres :)

I have myfitnesspal. Using it daily :)

Ace, when you get a moment, try punching that food in to www.myfitnesspal.com as I'd be interested to see what the macros are on that meal.

Which meal?

Good work so far mate,

Lots of water, plenty of exercise, loads of meat & veggies & you will do great.

The fact I love meat has really helped me diet - as having a lovely rare steak doesn't feel like diet food.

Find a selection of nice self-spiced meats (roasted chicken, with oregano, black pepper & smoked paprika - pork with garlic & fenugreek, lamb with mint sauce & garlic etc).

Considering the oats are slightly more complex carbs, anyway, it's a bit like adding chips as a topping to a jacket potato: nice, but somewhat missing the point.

Nope!! The refined added sugar in for example flavoured porridge is a lot worse that the fructose combined with the fibre which is the sugar part of the oats. The GI is totally different and how its handled by the body too. One tops up the glucose in the liver and causes fat storage the other not so much.

Cottage cheese like enough for 20g protein should be fine.

Great work giving up the booze, your doing well getting in to the lifestyle, hopefully you stick with it and I look forward to seeing the gains

That's great. So his body is getting a sneaky increase in carbs through slow digestion of the starches bound up in the oats, causing an elevated insulin level over an extended period of time, as well as being given free fructose to play with when it should be oxidising fat instead? Whilst also decreasing the body's sensitivity to insulin over time?

I understand what you're suggesting, but "feeling fuller for longer" can be achieved through different means, whilst also ensuring the body's response to carbs is more efficient for burning flub.
