A client is someone who has instructed the professional to provide a service. It's entirely possible for the client to be the court itself, or Johnny Depp (not uncommon for competing experts to be entitled to interrogate the opposite side).

I haven't been watching any of this and have guessed who you're referencing purely from this one comment.
