So for £200 more you get a BR player and wireless.

Bargain :)

My PS3 gets used most as a Blu-ray player. For this reason alone i'd find it very hardto get rid of.

If you're basing this decision on games alone, then i'd go with the 360 with a mind to getting a cheap PS3 somewhere down the line.

you cannot say the ps3 has a shoddy online serice, lol, it does the job just as well as Live for playing games online, infact Live has had more issue's with going down than PSN since Halo3 came out.

Why can't he? Does it offend you? It does have a porr service compared to Live.

From that statement, I'm guessing you've never used it, and are speaking from hear say ;)

I had a ps3 before it even got released over here, i paid over double of what they sell for, so i am speaking from experiance

Live has been out for longer and has a lot more users so the strain on the servers will be much greater, but when the service does go down it isn't for very long. the PSN service is shoddy, you can't message, view friends etc...in game, whilst it is a decent free service it doesn't come close to live.....yet

lol it don't offend me, if i want to play online i just "go online", on either console?, i then play said game online, how can that be poor?, ones free and ones not, to state the PS3 online is poor for doing just that makes him and you sound stupid and MS fanboyish don't you think?. Only thing PSN is missing for online is a message system like LIVE for players on different games, but that still doesn't make PSN poor, lmao

not seen Singstar then have you, can be done and i expect it will be like this in future titles, still doesn't mean its shoddy, half the time i disable ingame messaging on my 360 anyway, i find it annoying

We are comparing the services which you get from each company, Live has a lot more features than PSN, we're not fan boys, just stating you get a better service with live. It might be cause we are used to live and all it's features we find sonys attempt poor.

I thought they would have had an update to use XBMC whilst in game by now, i wonder what troubles they're having with it.

What you expect doesn't mean a thing, it's when and if they do and only having it on 1 game and the ps3 being out for a year is poor.

better service of options of whatyou can do i agree but not needed to just enjoy online gaming, don't you agree?, so hence why i say PSN isn't poor for online gaming, featureless maybe but not as a service for playing online. Maybe they are holding on on HOME for the rest of the features, again maybe not your cup of tea but i'm sure other people will love it

poor compared to a system thats been inplace for over 5yrs with constant twice yearly updates then yes, poor for those that just want to play online on dedicated service "most of the time" on a system thats still growing and only been done for a year, then no

I am very much looking forward to HOME and what features it will bring, also i never said online was crap, just the service & lack of features. The online gaming part is excellent :D i used to play resistance most days online in servers of over 30 people without 1 bit of lag, but i'm sure it varies game to game like the 360

It's a 50/50 choice at the moment, both are a good options but PS3 will really start to come into its own next year. There's no doubt it's the better hardware, better build quality, better value it just doesn't have the sizeable games catalogue of Xbox 360 (yet).

Xbox 360 has had an amazing 2007 with some massive game releases and it's still wavering, MS have released some of their top developers to roam free and 360 has pretty much failed everywhere except the US/UK.

I fail to see how 360 can stop the PS3 juggernaut unless they kill it off (again) and re-introduce a new superior console (hopefully with better reliability), even then the mass public will probably be sick of their "force users to upgrade" policy which the Microsoft business plan is based on, whereas PS3 will be probably be supported for another 10yrs.

The PSN does not have the features that Live has, it's as simple as that, I am stating a fact. Do you play many online games? Maybe you don't so you're not missing the features of Live.

I did own a PS3, I have used the PSN and I've used Live. If the PSN was better I'd say so, it's not. It's not opinion, it's a fact. Anyone who says the PSN offers a better service than Live right now is deluded.

As i said it is poor now, and i've stated earlier it will no doubt improve i'm just talking about how it is now and how it compares to live at this moment in time

well thats certainly not me :p, all i said its not poor, it does the job, allows you to play games online for free

I agree with you heh, compared to Live right this minute it is not as good. I don't understand how people can even argue against it.

Sure, once Home comes out or whatever they do next then maybe the PSN will leap forwards.

I'm in the same position as the OP - wanted a console for ages to make use of the TV but I can't make my mind up lol.

As others have said, the 360 will be more enjoyable at this moment in time but in the back of mind, I think I'd regret getting one.

I like that the PS3 does everything out the box and also quite a few friends (Joe Public type of people) have recently bought them which is quite an important factor for me. I'd also use it for films, and reading about the noisy 360 adds another nail to the coffin.

So in all honesty, I'd love to go and buy a PS3 today but then I see people saying how crap PES is and that its online play is awful etc, which puts the idea on the backfoot again.

However, I'm terrible for over-analyzing things anyway so might just buy it and hope for the best!

Believe me I have both versions and the 360 version of PES is just as crap, and don't let anyone here tell you otherwise m8.
You will not be dissapointed with a PS3, as a growing number of people on here will testify too, A vocal minority will try to talk you out of no doubt...
But with games like FFXIII, GT5, MGS4 and Killzone 2 coming things are looking very good indeed.

Yeah 4 games make the PS3 the console to own! No one is trying to talk him out of anything we're giving him advice on which is the better console to own NOW, there is no point buying a console and waiting months for 4 games to come out, the 360 has an excellent catalouge of games out now, if this thread was posted a year from now then your post would hold more weight
