Thoughts on Silver Arrow?

dont think the height/width are in relation to eachother. i have seen a lot of short fat cases and long thin ones. jusr as much as you get short skinny and tall fat cases. the reason the SA doesnt fit you case is nothing to do with them not making the fans to fit all cases, its becuase they designed the fans to be the right size to make the product work efficiently (and keep the costs down). they give you dimensions so its up to you to make sure it fits.

Its difficult to go by measurement given in sale info, The Fractal R3 case is 207mm wide and the full tower version is 232mm wide, but then it depends how much room is left after fitting the m/b.
The Silver arrow says it is 160mm high, so how much room is actually left for a cooler when the m/b is in place

guys did you read my post about him having the fans the wrong way ? that's why he cant get the side on his case. he should turn them sideways so the flat edge is flush with the ram and the side of the case...

Yes I can see what you mean now, although it looks like the fans might interfere with the graphics card the other way round, also the fins look like they poke out of the case a bit as well, so with a Fractal full tower case I might be ok, but its a waste of money paying for a "quiet" case and leaving the side off, I might have to go for a smaller cooler

yeah i love the quietness of my r3, case, and i have 6 fans inside, 7 with the cpu fan, lol.

when i get my sa ill install it and make pics then you can see if it really does fit ok :) im gonna be getting it tomorrow ^^

i found this post by a dude on another forum regarding this:

"All arrived and installed...

For future reference for everyone, the Silver Arrow fits in fine in an R3, and even has enough space above the heatsink to install a 14cm exhaust fan in the top of the case.

The only thing I'm not sure is if you could get a side fan on the case, although I'm not using one so its no issue to me . I think it would be ok with a 12cm fan, but a 14cm one may clash with the heatsink... Not sure!

I have low profile XMS3 RAM, and it doesn't cause any issues. I suspect, if you used high profile RAM with heatsinks, you could fit them under the Silver Arrow fan, but this would push the fan up and then it wouldn't fit in an R3. If you have a wider case you could probably have both and it wouldn't likely be a problem.

Thanks for the help! Fractal design never did reply to my e-mail, but never mind "

blimy did you guys read up the post? i said twice now hes got his fans on the wrong way around!

please read up....

Yes you are right about the fans, but look at the fins and end of the pipes sticking out, from the picture they stand proud of the case

there is another guy who purchased the IFX-14 and put it in a r3 and thats basically just the heatsink without the fans, he said it fitted.

and i was thinking the same about that picture but its hard to judge clearence from that picture,

so far the IFX-14 owner and the other forum guy i posted here said it fits, so im willing toi bet it does, youll see tomorrow anyway when i post my pics ^^

do these not stick up higher than the case? or is it just the angle?

im prety sure its the angle. 1 sec

looks flush to me

or maybe a couple mm's taller

thermalright_silver_arrow_fans_side.jpg

but bear in mind the dude who made the pics fans are way above the top of the sink as shown below, because the fan is on its side, it should be like these above. ^

there should be a few mm's clearance in the r3 case. like i said earlier it should fit, barely.

looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing about your experience before I buy my kit, I know the clearance probably changes between cases irrespective of their total width as some have more room behind the m/b panel for cables which obviously means less room for the cooler, but as the pics are of a r3 and thats the case I really wanted for the soundproofing which takes up even more room I imagine, it will be nice to know for certain, especially with conflicting evidence
Cheers

Tempted by this cooler as its currently on offer till Wednesday to replace my Gelid Tranquillo. For those that own it already, how have you connected the fans to the mobo? As I know each fan has its own individual cable which would plug into its own fan header but I would only have the one spare header (cpu_fan) as the case fans are plugged into the rest. I was thinking of using a pwm splitter cable if I did buy one.

Yup you gonna have to use the pwm splitter cable

Nah, I use this one better: Gelid Solutions PWM Y Cable, Connect two PWM fans to one socket below:

It pretty very good and long cable too (unfortunately ocuk don't stock these! I do hope ocuk will bring these one day)

Yeah have seen that cable recommended on here before but there doesn't seem to be any info regarding how long it is.

Will have a look for one on a well-known auction website:)
