Thoughts on Silver Arrow?

Nah, I use this one better: Gelid Solutions PWM Y Cable, Connect two PWM fans to one socket below:

It pretty very good and long cable too (unfortunately ocuk don't stock these! I do hope ocuk will bring these one day)

im using one of them too got it from the bay of e for a few quid :)

13.7" 350mm. I think they have a cable to hook up 3 fans or it was Phobya.

Four in fact.

Well just bought one as stock was getting low. Hopefully it will fit inside my CM-690II Advanced without needing to have the case side off.

edit: I've spent almost £50 on a CPU cooler when technically there's nothing wrong with the Gelid Tranquillo I have at the moment. Still got everything running at stock and unless I overclock the hell out of my CPU, the SA might be a bit overkill.... Have I done the right thing here in buying the SA?

Yes, you've just wasted £50.

On the bright side, it might encourage you to do some overclocking (if you need/want to)

Personally, i've got no reason to overclock my cpu right now but i guess when i start getting into some more demanding games, it will come in handy.

Hmm decisions decisions. Might sleep on it and see how I feel about it tomorrow. Might be able to cancel the order before they post it, if I decide to do so.

In my head I know the Tranquillo is suited to my needs at the moment as everything is at stock but I know it wasn't designed for overclocking in mind hence the 'silent' fan it comes with (well it might be able to cope with mild overclocking).

Well, after having it on for a few days, I love this thing. Very very quiet, barely audible, and temps are great. :)

Do you need to get low profile ram for this?

Depends what Mobo your using, I've got 8gb (2x4Gb) Corsair Vengeance with the 'heatsinks' and a p67 sabertooth, The cooler just about blocks the 1st slot so I'm a no go for upgrading my ram at the moment but it doesn't really matter, I can provide a picture if you want.

So you're not affected unless you want to use 4/4 ram slots. If you only use 2/4 it's fine?

Sounds good. Looking at this thing makes me drool, I think I'll just it on my next system

It depends on the layout of your motherboard though and what chipset, fortunately both mine fall into place nicely, make sure to ask before you purchase!

No need to be so dramatic. The Silver Arrow is a quality heatsink that should last you through a few upgrades. Thermalright have a long tradition of providing bolt through kits for newer sockets as well.

yer. well just standard 1 inch rams without any taller heatsinks

You can use taller stuff as mentioned in the post above but it usually limits you to 2 of the 4 slots. However as 8GB (2x4GB) kits are getting cheaper this is less of problem for most. Again as mentioned it depends completely on the motherboard in question, some layouts do vary.

yea true, all my 4 slots are occupied however

the clips were a freaking nightmare to get on after the sink was installed, i really recommend that you place those on the sink before you lay it down to install.
