Tiger Style: Build log

W3bbo have you ever had any problems with your UFO's roof mounted fans? as both of my Yate Loons have started to grind due to them been mounted horizontally and having sleeve bearings.

Not had any problems at all with the old ones (blue led version), I have mine as exhaust fans though on the roof so that might make a difference. Do you have yours as intakes?

Look's interesting, and some very nice work, even if I do still think UFO's look too cheap and box-like. :p

I like that front pannel header block though, that must make putting all the separate connectors together so much easier. Where did it come from? With the case, board or somewhere else?

PK!

Most new high end asus boards have em iirc. 'Q-Connect'.

The braid work looks pro m8.
(hope mine goes as well)

What type of heat source did you use for the heatshrink ?

Did you cover the braid and the molex/exposed cables with anything while heating the heatshrink ?
(I'm worried about melting the plastic)

I plan on doing exactly the same (only 5 fans here), 3mm braid and 4mm heatsrink (black), I got some (black) 3 pin molex from the USA.

I love the idea of using a mobo header on the led.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

For heatshrink i found best is boiling hot water in a glass just dip it in. unless you have a heat gun to hand..

W3bbo - what bolts you using on the fans to bolt them to the rads? I'm in need of some black ones.

Might I just say Clever!

Really like the look so far. Going to have 4 or 5 fans in mine too, same fans as yours. Your braiding is getting my head thinking :)

I use a lighter... chuck it under the flame briefly (a second or so) if it doesn't shrink enough, do it again...

I don't... doesn't get hot enough over such a short period of time, like when people run there fingers/hands over lit flames... (don't condone that :p u could get burnt)

I've seen this said a few times about 7v being bad for PSU's in the past, but I've never seen it backed up by anything technical or official.

Some thing to do with sending current UP the 5v cable, normally the 5v cable is used as ground on fans.

It wont stop me from modding my fans to 7v anyhow.

But in your case w3bbo, as you have a lot of fans, it may be an idea to ask your PSU manufacturer about this.

I think I'll risk it tbh - never had a problem in the past. It could well be an issue with cheap psus, I dunno, never used em.

My current PSU is a 1kw silverstone:).

Hopefully most of my new kit will be here today so I can crack on with the build. Just waiting for a couple of temp gauges, a gpu block and powdercoated rad grills which will be here next week ish and I'll be good to go.

I'm waiting on an anodised rad grill, I'm not water cooling, it's for 2 x 120mm fans to be mounted in the top of the case.

BTW w3bbo,

No just hold a lighter under the shrink briefly, aslong as you dont heat it up too much or allow the flame to touch the shrink, it's fine. A heatgun would be safer I guess but I aint got one to hand.
