Time to game

A successful home business is good, but not sure I would want to be spending half of every working week on a console when I'm 50...

Agree, 20 hours a week is a fair chunk. If I managed to play for 10 hours a week, I'd feel like I'd got a fair amount of time. 20 hours is a bit... Extreme. I'm out the door at half 7. In the door at half 6, dishes done, dinner made by half 7, sometimes 8. Finish around half past, maybe 9pm. then an hour or so gaming if I fancy it.

34 and have a house with a list as long as my arm with stuff that needs doing but I still find a few hours a week to game, I cant stand most generic tv and adverts and the mrs gets to the tv to herself until 9/10ish when I come down so it suits us both

I've always been and always will be a gamer, unless a disability prevents me from enjoying it at some point in the future.

I tend to like high quality games (usually those that have high scores on review sites), regardless of genre. I enjoyed Doom when it came out, I enjoyed Half Life and its Counter-Strike mod and now I enjoy CS:GO. Similarly, I enjoyed Master of Orion back in the day and I enjoy Civ V now. The passage of time has had no effect on my hobby. :D

That being said, one of my good friends, who used to be a gamer too, is anything but nowadays. It just doesn't do anything for him anymore.. every person is different. It's also true that I don't have as much time as I used to for gaming but I always make time for it.

Yeah same really. Im 25 and its certainly an effort to find time and mental energy to play. It doesn't help that I'm extremely fussy when it comes to games and get bored easily.

However, I just purchased an xbox one, and im enjoying playing that at the moment, although, it will no doubt wear off as the weeks go by.

Nothing to do with the thread but that username always makes me chuckle like a school boy.

39.....still gaming quite a lot but then I have a lifestyle that offers a lot of free time, both at work (I work at see) and at home.

Living with my girlfriend, but no kids (yet) and gaming is what I do instead of watching TV and/or films......

Even then, I often don't feel comfortable gaming during the day when better things could be getting done (even if I end up doing nothing else productive), with all the free time in the world and very few responsibilites, gaming for me is generally a late evening thing, and yeah, I still greatly enjoy it and some weeks I could easily sink 20 hours into playing video games, both at home and at work!

If I had a more regular existence, involving a 9-5 (and the rest) routine and kids, then I could easily see gaming slipping out the routine. Wouldn't have the time and/or the energy for gaming if I was actually properlly busy.

But as things stand, I sometimes don't feel right if I don't get at least a few rounds of BF4 in before I go to my bed.

34 here. I work as a videogames producer by day so have my fill of games during work hours but I still can't wait to play non work related games come the evenings when I get the time. Once the kids are asleep :)

Time certainly seems to get less as you get older and have more responsibility but I think if you still enjoy playing games you will find the time.

29 here and definitly much less time than I used to have. Recently however I stepped away from all my other hobbies (saving for a wedding/honeymoon will do that) and I can now get in a couple evenings a week and usually a Saturday or Sunday morning. It's better now I've given up on 1440p/crossfire ad now when I get the time to play a game I can actually play it and not spend an hour or so fixing whatever else has broken.

33 and I go through spells where I game pretty much as soon as I get on from work and will play through 2-3 games in a couple weeks, to how I am just now where I literally have not loaded up a game in maybe 3-4 weeks.

Another factor is money spent on our computer systems. I threw down £500 the other month on the 980ti upgrading from a 780. And one of the main reasons is I just don't want to sit fiddling around with settings. I want to get a game, launch it up, stick it to absolute max, turn on my plasma, sit on the sofa with a 360 controller and enjoy 60fps smoothness admiring PC master race graphics haha.

But seriously, whilst it's still my hobby, spending the money every year upgrading the PC is getting a bit... Painful. I really am tempted by a PS4 as of late, but I just know it won't be worth it.

38 here - I game at least an hour if not 3 a night - when I'm gaming I'm recording now. Found I have the hardware; have a channel might as well.......

Getting a tiny following; so some are liking what I'm doing. I've gone though lulls at times with gaming - but found I am a gamer; I'm not happy if I'm not gaming at some point so why try and fight it or change into something I don't like :D

I've found recording has helped push me to find more time for gaming also as I work in IT some days its long.......:D

I'm 31 and can go for extensive periods without playing, but if I see a steam sale I'll pick up a few games and can get really addicted and hammer them.

I don't buy new games as my PC is 4 years old. I'm fancying an upgrade but part of me thinks its for the best not bothering as I don't want to feel that I've wasted time on playing games for too long.

Well I've been home now since around 5:20 and all I've been doing is browsing a few forums and trying out a demo on the Vita. Not actually done much gaming on it yet.

I don't play anywhere near as much as I'd like, I'm the sort of person that can't just dip in and have an hour at it, I have to be on it all night or I won't bother. I'm often too tired, hungry and stressed out when I get home to fire up a game, I just tend to veg out not really doing anything just letting my brain recover from the day.

Had a very long period out of work due to ill health in the past few years and the freedom to do what you like when you like was awesome, now I have little time to do anything.

I go weeks without playing anything sometimes as a demanding job, family, house renovation all get in the way. However, the nights that my wife goes out consist of 4 or 5 hours of uninterrupted gaming for me :D

41 here. Didn't touch a game for nearly 4 years when my first child was born in 2011. Recently I've picked it up again, but only for an hour or two every couple of days. Can't really be bothered to play anything new - not enough time and too tired. I just fall back on Supreme Commander usually, as I can just play it on auto-pilot. Did try a couple of more recent games and was surprised how well my old i3 and 460GTX handled them.

I can see myself definitely playing Sim/God games in a few years when the kids are more independent. The missus also wants to play MMORPG's again - we spent many hours playing together on EQ and LotR Online before our life (and house) was turned upside down :)

Almost the big 50 and I game most days during the week. I only work part time so I get a couple of hours gaming in the afternoon before having to cook dinner for me and my wife. My wife loves her baths as well so I get at least an hour in then as well if she has one :) It helps that we've got no kids but we are usually away at friends over the weekend so Mon - Thu are my main gaming days.

I'm fixated on the Witcher 3 at the moment and played nothing else since it came out (78 hrs so far). Looking to buy a GTX980ti this week which should keep me going for a few more years.

34 here, the older I get the more I am getting into gaming on pc :)

Same here, I'm 44 and now hitting 30 to 40 hours a week. Mind you I'm now separated so having no-one to stop me doesn't help.

EDIT: If you go too your Steam profile and check recent activity it gives you the time you've spent in game over the last two weeks. Mine currently say's 98.3 hours.
