Time to get me McJob

ANY job is better than "unemployed" on a CV. ANY job at all.

McD's is a good a place as any to start - for some reason it's seen as worse than working a student union bar (for example), even though for the latter, you work harder and are paid less. Lower-middle-class snobbery has a LOT to answer for in this country.

agreed. i'll be involved in recruiting for a position on my team in the next few months and i have to admit that if they're willing to work at mcd's instead of spending 12 months on the dole or doing volunteer work, i'd take the worker. i'd rather spend time training someone who wants to work rather than someone who thinks he's too good to work.

I'd, obviously, have no control over where I'd be working and i don't drive. This is partially the reason why I'm finding it so hard to get a job at the moment. I cannot physically get anywhere TOO work.

I sympathize man - I don't drive, and even though I work only a 20 minute drive from my house, I take the train. My total commute plus walking time isn't THAT bad though - takes about 35 minutes to get to work and about an hour to get home. I just told my boss at my interview that there's no way I would miss work, explaining to him that I didn't see insufficient transport as an excuse for lateness / absense.

Still not heard anything - Gonna pop into waitrose today - Stupidly totally forgot about applying there. Its only down the road!

Any other ideas? =/

Try looking through your local phone book for businesses. (I'd be more specific but I don't know Reading that well)

Mate you must be doing something slightly wrong if your not getting a job!

Are you handing CV's in? Maybe post it up here for everyone to take a look at??

Oh,

Just got back from my driving lesson to find a letter from McD's inviting me in for a 'group' interview next Tuesday. Far from exciting but atleast its something!

I moved house in 2000 when I was 15/16, I was due to start college and I got a job at Maccy D's to get me some income in. Just weekend work and a couple of nights after college.
Best decision of my life! Met a lot of my friends there as we all in the same position, wanted some quick easy money, working with friends, very easy job :)

Go for it :)

Can be tedious but working in the kitchen is usually a laugh if your working with some decent people.

nice one :D

things are looking good ;) good luck for that one

Hehe, thank you. You had your interview yet? If so how did you get on?

Waitrose is a very good company to work for. Personally I'd recommend working on the deli counters etc rather than the checkouts or being a shelf stacker... :)

I can vouch for waitrose too. Worked there for 4 years in all sections except office and checkouts and coffe shop. I would suggest working in the fruit and veg section. If you don't mind a bit of heavy lifting its great. If not that then the back door unloading lorries is good too.

Applied for some more jobs today, one I'm very hopefully about due to it tying in with what little experience i do have. although pay is pretty shocking for the company i can't be picky!

I did my 17-20 service at Morissons, and despite it being a "boring supermaret job" it wasn't half bad, pretty easy work, good laugh, some of the bosses were obviously idiots on a powertrip over "the youth of today" but you always get one of them.

Did the shelf stacking there from, what, Nov 98 - March 01, and it actually is good for fitness too, lifting stuff all night long helps on physique hehe :) if I could go back now and do that, but for £8-10 an hour, jeez, i'd be back in a flash!

Like wise. I now get paid £8 an hour to sit on my ass. Gained a stone or two now :( Need to get back to lifting 25kg bags a spuds.
