Time to get me McJob

Dude - YOU ROCK! I'm not just saying that to be a butthead either. If I was jobless for more than a few days i'd do the same thing as well. I have a family to support and I can't stand people who are on benefits (except child benefit i suppose, but jobseekers benefits is a no-no.) If more people were like you, this country would be a lot better place. I'm not too proud to work at McD's - money is money, and when I have responsibilities and obligations i'll do anything to meet them, including McDs!

I can't put it any better than Munky. Fair play to you, and I wish you the best of luck.

Right, 1 Week of being unemployed and after circa 20 applications/sending off of CV's it seems unlikely I'm going to be able to get much else so I've decided tomorrow to take the plunge and apply at McD's!

Mucho Kudos! Stick with that kind of work ethic and you'll go far, my friend.

Anyone ever worked there? whats it like? whats starting wage? What are they like with ours? often get called in to cover others/are they flexible etc?

I haven't worked there but I know people who have. It seems to vary a lot by where you are, some are well run some are run by utter scum. Be watchful for them trying to stiff you out of money at every turn. For example, a friend of mine came to do his end of training assessment, for which you get an extra 10p an hour if you pass. Now, you're supposed to use two different colour towels for cleaning with, but they only had one. He pointed it out and the examiner said it'd be taken into account. Guess what? They failed him on the test for not using two different colours of towel. And thus stiffed him out of 10p/hour.

Good post.

Best of luck allec! let us know how you get on. :)

Used to work in BK, whilist at school and college.

Decent wage aswell, compared to most part time jobs anyway.

One of the best jobs I ever had, great people many laughs.

To be fair though, ours was the most unstrict place I have ever been in, managed to come in steaming at 6am for work one day literally put the beer in the bin at the front door.

Got in, steaming and the main manager told me to have a wash and work my shift!!

people don't hate working at mcdonalds because of snobbery, they hate it because it's a crap job! nobody does a mcdonalds job because they actually WANT to, the guy needs cash and knows it - and it's commendable he's going out there to get it - but he's also considered that he probably isn't going to enjoy it a great deal.

B@Th*nG

Granted it certainly wasn't my first port of call. But by no means do i think i wont enjoy it. I, however, do accept it would be bloomin hard work and i will find it hard to adjust (previous job @ comet was pretty laid back).

Again, congrats to you for getting a job other than signing on or something.

But I have to echo other people's thoughts; surely there's something else nearby? :p I'd much rather work in a Supermarket than McDonalds personally, I'm not sure I could stand the smell of McDonalds all day long, It would really depress me :D

Thanks and I've tried SO many other places. It really doesn't seem there's any market for GCSE school leaving not very attractive little experience 17 year old lads like me!

:) That made me smile. Thanks a lot (and too all others who are being nice!)

Pleasantly surprised by lack of trolls. Thanks :D

Well i specced up the two mcd's in Reading, went into the first one and manager looked pretty frustrating person - bloody busy for 9am. Went into the other one, dead quiet. Attractive polite blonde manager so i handed in my app form there (stupidly only did one, hence i had to choose!) See how it goes, ill apply for the other one should nothing come of this!

*fingers crossed*

your better off working in a restaurant as a waiter, at least you'll get tips and a basic wage and its better than saying u work in mcdonalds ;)

There's one in the Oracle (Riverside)

and there's one on Friar street.

Friar street one is the one I've applied for initially.

Quite a few burger kings also, one just off broad street, one on kings road and one on Friar Street.

Subways: Reading station, Frair Street and I'm sure theres another.

Pizza hut, Oracle river side and oxford road in tilehurst (brother is manager! :o)

Plenty of cheap fast food places in Reading aha.

OCuk meet at whichever one he gets a job at? :D

There's no justice if someone with your obious work ethic and attitude can't get a job.

Do you think you are perhaps being a bit hasty just because you havn't heard back from anywhere after just a week?

Think about the useful team work skills you gain from such a job, as well working in a pressurised environment. Well done for not lounging on benefits.

Id recommend john lewis as a good job. Great company and usually pay ok. Also will be more options to advance yourself. Also when you go for other jobs john lewis on your CV will be better then McD's. I worked for waitrose for 4 years (john lewis partnership). The yearly bonus is brilliant. 18% of yearly earnings last year. Bonus is in march so if you get a job before then you'll get a full bonus next year. And you get 25% off most things in john lewis if not its 12.5% and you get 12.5% off at waitrose.

As a student i'd say that McDonalds would be a pretty fair place to work, when I was a student I was working in factories and slicing cabages etc, very very hard and the people you go with aren't exactly "nice"

Best of luck
