I'm back baby!
Requirements:

Must be tiny. The smaller it is, the better she'd prefer it.
Must not be massively expensive.
Must not be so annoying a boxer is likely to eat it.
Must allow for dribble and play from aforementioned boxer.
Must not be bitey around young kids.

Preferences:

Cuteness ( :o)
Less propensity to shed

It doesn't have to be a pedigree.

The three main contenders are a chihuahua, a tea cup Yorkshire Terrier or a Pugalier.

Suggestions?

King Charles spaniel/cavalier?

Yeah, thats where she got the pugalier idea from.

Ideally she'd like a smaller one than that, but that is the starting point :)

I've completely gone off the pugalier idea. Just from reading a couple of sites there's a lot of vitriol aimed at breeders that're making this kind of dog.

This is actually for you isn't it? To carry around in your man-bag? :D

Rumbled...

Little dog's don't really seem to have the same level of personality to me, and that puny shrill sharp bark drives me mental.

I couldn't agree more. The boxer will be trained to keep it away from me :D

Does it have to be a dog? Most small dogs seem to be the most irritating things in the world and aren't half as loving and loyal as larger dogs.

It's either that or a ferret. Aint having one of them anywhere near me or my dog.

Might be a bit big, but you can't beat a Westie.......
Gimme a stick and show me a Westie... ;) My aunt used to have them. Awful, awful dogs.

although it would make the Boxer its bitch.

Not this one!
From My Experiences most 'Small' (and pointless) Dogs are Bitey/Yappy things trying to make up for their diminutive size by being Bitey and Yappy!...
Yeah thats why I want to be careful and get the right one.
Back on topic - could you not talk her into a border collie?

Far, far too big. If we were after a dog that needed that much exercise we'd get a dalmation.
PS: I take it your mrs watched Crufts last night too? All I heard was a chorus of EEEEEEEH! AWWWWWWWWWWW! NYAWWWWW!!!! NICKY!!! I WANT A GOGGI!!!

Yup :( Though she's been whining about it for weeks.
Jsut get a jack Russell, it'll look cute and acceptable as a puppy and she will unexpect it to turn in to a little beast that you can both admire.

Just to make it clear, I don't want a yappy snappy dog. There will be a little boy around the dog, we don't want him bitten
labradoodle ?

Too big

This has featured highly in her thoughts too
Pomeranian??

Not if I can possibly avoid it.
If you are not fussy about pedigree Please go to a rescue centre.

We've already visited one this week. There's another on the cards, but I hate the places. I want to rescue all of them.
Lhasa Poo

I hate Lhasa Apsos and she hates poodles :p
my sister had a minature Yorkie, yappy little pain in the arse it is, wouldn't recommend

Yeah, that's my opinion of them too.
The thing is though just know whos going to end up walking it and looking after it don't you :(

Yeah, so the less it needs walking the better :D
Hi what about a shi tzu?

Looks too much like an Ewok. A lot like the Lhasa Apso.

my girlfriends shi tzu is really yappy it dont shut up

Noted :)
Basically the rule with Yorkies is get them as big as poss.

Yeah, that's the problem. She wants the dog to be as small as possible.
I'm surprised no one has questioned you why you want a annoying yappy small dog?

Where did I say I want one?

Just get a real dog, like a Irish wolf hound.

I have a real dog. We can't fit a horse in the house.
Why not get a rat? They have much better temperaments than little dogs and they look a lot cuter!

Cos rats suck, and are you kidding? Dogs > * > rats.
Get a bichon frise like my Roddy!

Meets all your requirements tbh

Unfortunately it looks like a winner so far :( Damn ball of fluff.

If they're yappy it gets delivered to you.
Small dogs are evil and should be stamped on.

Should be stopped from breeding so we don't have to put up with them :p

It always does - my parent's neighbours have had boxers for 30 years and every one of them has the mental prowess of a turnip.

Really?

Wonder if they've always been unlucky. Mine is headstrong but intelligent. He knows exactly what you want him to do, its getting him to do it that's the problem :D Most Boxer training clubs/sites/breeders I've spoken to say the same.
Out of curiosity, would the boxer by now not be fairly loyal to the kid, and so eat a little dog that tried to bite him?

Fair point. So all I have to do is get it to try and bite him ;)
Have you thought how much you want to pay?

I'd like to spend less than £400. The cheaper the better.

I would definitely prefer to get one from a rescue. I'd pay more than they were charging to give them more money too.

Course it makes sense, the majority of problems with dogs are due to poor owners, ie untrained. When you watch these dog programs (Dog Borstal, Dog Whisperer) they are 9 times out of 10 training the owner to be a better handler. So "Yappy dogs are just untrained owners." makes perfect sense. :)

It really doesn't.

Certain breeds (pomeranian, miniature poodle, jack russell, etc.) are yappy no matter what the owner does. It is in their nature.

Cairn terrier?

I'm not sure about having a terrier around the kid, and the cairn looks a bit too much like the Westie.

I think the lady has decided on a Yorkshire Terrier if I've read Gilly's posts correctly so no other dog matters that much now. :)

Oh she's been decided on that from the start. Doesn't mean she's getting one.

The 'thanks for that' was his factual post. I've already said no to a Chihuahua :)

Show her post #129, she cant resist that Shirley?

'Eurgh, what is that??' was the response.

She won't have a wire haired dog. Says they look scruffy and they're not cute enough

We've had yet another argument over this because she wants to go look at Chihuahua crosses. Chihuahua dogs are snappy and there's a little boy in the picture, not to mention future kids. I aint having it.
