Toasted Sandwiches

I think I've found the boss level Cheese Toastie

It's basically everything melded together into one mega toasted hybrid, where you can't tell where the cheese ends and the toast begins

I have one of the crush it and seal the edges type toasters but for the life of me I can’t stop the cheese (cheddar) from squirting through a crack in the seal and basically leaving me with nothing inside.

Any tips?

Might be the bread you are using perhaps? I have a Breville yoke and never had this. Decent amount of butter on the outside should make it go nice and golden without drying out and leaking.

Sounds like you’re filling it too much.

Those sandwich iron things are just crap.

Honestly just use a frying pan, you can get much better results.

I have but I really like the sandwich maker style, perhaps nostalgia from when I was a kid! I have read people use mayonnaise rather than butter for a crispier outside and I may need to change my cheese to a less melty one.

If I am I’m left with nothing! A quick google earlier showed you should really jam as much filling in as you can so I don’t know…!!
Here’s one I made a few weeks ago, filled with 2 types of cheese and left for 7-8 minutes. Maybe try larger slices of bread?

I love a nice cheese and ham toastie.
I often use a sandwich bar for a take away at work and i asked them what toaster they use.
It's called a Waring Deep Fill Sandwich Toaster and iirc i paid about £40 for it a couple of years ago.
It can take thick or extra thick bread with plenty of filling and is used regularly in my house by everyone.

To be fair that’s what I’m after! Good Skillz! What bread and cheese do you use?

I use Warburtons Toastie thick sliced and just some mild cheddar. I do try and keep the filling away from the edges.

I use the orange warburton's bread with mozzarella and cheddar mixed together, it's best if you have bread over hanging the edges as it creates a better seal as it's just the bread squishing down together.

Yep ideally I would have my crusts outside the toastie machine, the middle of the bread seals much better than crusts that can stop it fully sealing.

I bought a Crimpit from Amazon a few weeks ago and it's great:

You use sandwich thins rather than bread. Have used it lots since getting it and not had a single one burst or not seal properly, they just pop in the toaster (or air fryer) and a few minutes later you've got a great little crispy sandwich. Can highly recommend.

A good sandwich toaster should do the above (crimp the sandwich) and cook at the same time without the faff. Breville being one of the most popular.
