Toasted Sandwiches

A pan is very much capable of achieving melted filling.
have you significantly buttered the pan / outer bread surface then ?

..
Only problem with foreman type grdiddles, like I use, is you can't do American Waffles/pancakes another dietary staple

Egg and cheese every lunch time, for the past 6 months :p

My go to toastie is cheese (with a bit of pepper) or cheese and sliced ham/beef/turkey. Cheese and mushroom is good but means having to cook up the mushrooms beforehand so if I'm being lazy it's too much :D

has anyone had this before they are nice. make a jam sandwich i normally use strawberry. then soak it in milk. both sides. then put in a frying pan. cook both sides till toasted. really nice. :p

on the toasty machine side. cheese and beans take some beating.

I accept that only a Breville type machine makes a toastie. But a toasted sandwich must include the croque monsieur and what the Septics call "grilled cheese". Personally I haven't had a toastie machine in decades, all the filling boils and squirts out. My Dualit toaster has toasted sandwich rack, which is ace, but number one preference is in the frying pan. Although admittedly one cannot achieve the jam filled pocket of annihilation without a toastie machine.

I love a toasted sandwhich. I remember putting a post years ago on facebook, primarially as a joke, about a new house purchase being complete once the sandwhich toaster arrived. The amount of people on that, and even some in this thread, that posted suggestions it will just end up in the back of a cupboard amazed me then and still does now! I love the thing. Probably use it at least once a week every week since I've had the thing.

Though reading this does make me wonder, I currently have the flat plate one like this;

https://smile.amazon.co.uk/Breville...=1613164561&sprefix=toasted+sa,aps,195&sr=8-3

Am I really missing out by not having the kind that seals round the edge?

I'm gonna say that yes, you're missing out! The sealing type plates create a hot, steamy environment that works incredibly well at cooking/heating the insides. It also means that the fillings are fully contained within the toastie, meaning less wastage/seepage from said toastie. The only thing is to make sure that the bread you use fits the plates. Sometimes loaves can be distorted, leading to ejection of filling, which is bad!!!

Yep. If this post was a toastie, I'd eat the hell out of it.
