Today's mass shooting in the US

I lived in LA for a while, and honestly... I've never seen anything like it, it was like somebody had opened the doors to a mental asylum and let them roam around, it was just normal to have lunatics blathering and shambling around outside all day and all night long.*

The problem in the US isn't really the lack of funding, it's that if you're ill, need help / medication and don't have any money / a job, you get literally nothing... Nowhere to live, no support or medical treatment, you get literally nothing.

You're essentially on the streets.

Granted, LA is a special case as it's warm all year round, so people can sleep outside and not freeze - so it does attract higher numbers of homeless and crazy people, but it's still a real eye opener

For a country that claims to be "Christian" I've never been to a western country that lacks empathy and compassion like America.

My wife, recently retired as a director of a medical company, is going through her "charitable and good works" stage, just when the horrors of having a menopausal woman around had passed.

She's now doing part time teaching assistant work in local schools and assures me that we too have swathes of ill educated, rude and feckless kids in the education system. Her first "school day" had some little sod asking her for a blow job... The most effective response of a belt round the ear is denied her, and other teachers said you just get inured to it.

She always thought my opinion of the lack of work ethics and political neutrality of modern teachers was OTT, but she seems to be coming around to my way of thinking ;) The bigger urban schools seem to have a lot of 11 year olds with the reading and writing skills of 7 year olds. The smaller to tiny country schools fare much better, especially those with 15 or less in a class. She reckons many of the 11 plus year olds in urban schools are dead wood already, educationally, and likely future unemployable outside of menial work that they seem in no desire to contemplate. Lack of discipline is one of the biggest issues, which for some reason seemed to surprise her.

I suspect large areas of the US education system face similar issues. I would imagine a comparison with Japan would be saddening and embarrassing.

Well just giving up on them isn't the answer. You only fix these issues with funding and smaller class sizes.

Trump wades into the gun argument with his usual stupidity.

Fortify schools and let Ukraine go to hell is the basic message.

How about, we take all the guns off teenagers in America and send them to Ukraine?

You can go collect the guns then, let us know how it goes

Another fatal shooting...

It's interesting spin I suppose, but they nearly had another mass shooting...
Which will, no doubt, be immediately jumped on by the NRA, GOP and other gun nuts as ‘proof’ that gun ownership ‘stops mass shootings.’

Ranked #1 by the way

You can see how the state(s) treat the most vulnerable and its clear as day they lack empathy and compassion. And I include blue and red states in that. California has terrible problems with homelessness and mental health. Texas cut mental health funding just last year. I'm an atheist and I'm more "Christian" than many that claim to be Christians there.

Lot of conflicting information about this Uvalde shooting not just the police response on the day but different sources coming out with was bullied, was not bullied was the bully. Was never in trouble, was always in trouble with the police, etc. etc.

Seems like there is more concern from people trying to cover their behinds than anything else.

It's easy to be homeless in California, the weather is mild, the law's aren't very strict, there's plenty of drugs, plenty of charities and support for the homeless. California has basically the ideal conditions for being homeless. How many homeless are there in Alaska? Hardly any I bet, no one wants to be homeless there, you're gonna have a **** time.

So according to Marage any men wearing eye liner and cross dressing mean they have mental health problems  So I’m sure she will support mandatory mental health checks to gain and keep a firearms licence?? I think we all know the answer to that.

I'm usually angry when dressing, mainly because im grumpy in the morning.Don't see why that means i have mental issues though.

I've still never understood why the MAGA slogan was a bad thing. Yes people said it's a racist term but why was it racist? I never looked into it all that much.
The implication of Make America Great Again is a return to the 50's when white people ruled everything and black people were openly discriminated against with segregation in public everywhere. What was great about it for most people I don't know but that's what the Trumpists want again.
