Today's mass shooting in the US

US shootings are getting pretty meta.

'Florida reporter and girl, 9, killed near scene of earlier fatal shooting.'

A TV journalist was killed and a crew member was injured while they were covering an earlier shooting incident in Orange County, Florida, on Wednesday, police said.

The big picture: Police said they arrested Keith Melvin Moses, 19, and charged him with murder in connection to the first shooting Wednesday morning. He's expected to be charged over the later shootings of the TV crew and also a mother and her 9-year-old daughter, who died of her injuries.

  • Police said they suspect Moses of being the gunman in all three of the shootings.
Driving the news: The journalists, who worked for Spectrum News 13, were on the scene covering an earlier fatal shooting, authorities said. They were "shot in or around their vehicle," Sheriff John Mina said at a news conference.

  • "That vehicle was almost exactly in the same spot as the vehicle was from the homicide this morning. So it's unclear why exactly they were targeted. And you know certainly, we're going to look into that," Mina said.

I saw that earlier with some of the comments by one of the news anchors that worked with the reporter, horrific :(
Apparently it looks like the actions of some of the other news crews may have saved at least one of the wounded as they immediately started providing first aid (and these days I would not be surprised if US news crews have very extensive first aid kits given the number of shootings they attend, and the threats they get).

You would expect charges for leaving a gun for a toddler to easily get a hold of and fire,

but its Texas every toddler has the right to bare arms

Another school shooting.

Unusually it was a teenage girl:

"shooter was a teen female, officials said, and was armed with two assault-type rifles and a handgun, police said."

Sad state of things.
I wasn't shocked there had been another mass shooting in a school, but I was shocked that the shooter was a girl.

Shooter was apparently a 28 year old woman now, not a teenager. I wonder if she worked there previously and was fired or maybe she's a parent to a kid bullied there or even abused there. The truth will come out no doubt but it seems oddly specific.

It is very unusual for a woman to do something like this.

Those poor parents, I don't have kids but I have a mate who's 9 year old died in a riding accident and he's never been the same man since, something broke that day that could never be repaired and that was just an accident doing something she loved. I can't imagine the extra trauma of your child being murdered.

I can't imagine living in a country where you send your child to school knowing it could be you receiving that call. Even poor 3rd world countries don't have that problem. Would hate to bring up my kids in that environment.
