Today's mass shooting in the US

No 2 countries are alike so that would be impossible to figure out.

Rather than trying to prove a negative wouldn't it make more sense to ask, why is it that a country like Japan for instance where firearms are legal (for hunting and sport), has the lowest murder rate in the world and one of the lowest mental health rates across its population.

I just think there's way more to it, than just "guns are bad mmkay"

That's not making the pint you think it is.

Japan has just about the lowest gun ownership rate in the world. Japan also has a very strong cultural stigma against criminality, so crime rates are generally low.

And yet suicide is through the roof...

Suicide rates are so high in Japan because of societal and cultural pressures, fix the cause and the problem will either go away or be drastically reduced.

2/3rds of gun violence in America is suicide also, why because its pretty much guaranteed to succeed, they are also far more likely to be men as women tend to chose none violent means that often fail.

Yet the Surgeon General's office, who's very remit is to identify and investigate the causes of death at a large scale in the US is banned by law from investigating gun deaths, be they suicide or otherwise?!

It's a nigh on impossible thing to figure out really, so many variables that could change/influence it.

Maybe that's where the likes of America needs to change, look at the cultural, societal changes needed to improve the situation.

But the thing is most Briish people, and certainly myself, don't give a monkey's if the Yanks shoot each other to the point of extinction, but we do care what's happening over here, and violent crime is all around with little to show that the police or the courts are willing to address it in a decisive manner.

Then I suggest you stop voting the Tories back into power.

Switzerland also has high gun ownership levels, specially for the 18 - 34 age range, not as high as the US, but the biggest factor to consider is that in Switzerland, people are trained about gun safety and responsible ownership due to mandatory military service for able bodied men.

They're also required to keep a record of their ammunition, and keep the weapon secured when not in use. Far stricter than the US.

'Switzerland has a stunningly high rate of gun ownership — here's why it doesn't have mass shootings.'

These incidents will always happen unless you address the route cause to start with, I don't see anyone addressing that matter on either side of the political spectrum. The route cause isn't access to guns,

Access to guns is absolutely the critical factor.

mass shootings have happened here in the UK

But at a rate so small as to be statistically negligible. Which proves that limiting access to guns is the key to solving the problem.

and no one has access to guns, except the criminals.

Absolutely not true.

Why doesn't Biden change that then, surely having an accurate idea of how or what people are dying from is a good thing when it comes to gun violance, unless it goes against their gun control ideas.

Because he doesn't have a magic wand...there are lengthy legal processes to go through to change laws in the states. Those changes can be relatively easily blocked by the opposition.

Anyway, can't be bothered to beat this dead horse any longer, it's never going to happen, no US politician would dare stop gun ownership, the country would go into melt down. It would require a multi generational shift to even consider and no party would remain in power for the time required.

I don’t think any politician even considers an outright gun ban a possibility, but more restrictive gun laws are wanted by the majority of the public, they’re just blocked by NRA and gun manufacturer backed politicians.

So he does have the ability to do it then, what a great way to drum up support, issue an executive order pleasing his supporters then blaming the opposition in congress when they override it.

But we all know he won't.

Because it would be a waste of time.

Culture + Homogenous population is the difference.
