Today's mass shooting in the US

If anyone can watch the Vegas shooting documentary and think gun control isn't necessary, then there's something wrong with you. It's the same with the school massacres, how can anyone think this can be allowed to go on unchecked? The Vegas shooter had an arsenal of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition, all bought legally, it's insanity.

It's a moot point given that there are millions of guns available in the States (southern especially).

Too big a business and really even if measures were put into place, it is impossible to police.

I don’t think anyone believes an outright ban is ever a possibility, but some restrictions are absolutely needed. Stopping private gun sales, the gun show loophole, mandatory waiting periods, red flag laws to allow removal of weapons from those who post a danger to themselves and others. Magazine limitations, extra licensing of Semi-Automatic weapons too.

I agree with your sentiment. But it's not going to happen.

The GOP, and many of their leaders are bankrolled by the NRA, some of them to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. There's also suspicion and claims that the NRA itself has taken millions from Russian donors.

Gun control groups have been outspending the NRA for the past 5 years.
