Too Old ? ?

I went from a 125 to a 1200 after passing my test. Admittedly it was a slow 1200 (Triumph Bonneville T120) but it had masses of torque. The first time I joined a motorway on the way home from collecting the bike I twisted the throttle as if I was on a 125 and nearly blew myself off the back of it. I only just managed to hold on. Lesson learned and quickly :)
First shoulder check doing 70(ish) on the motorway nearly ripped my head clean off my shoulders

The scariest and happiest moment for me was when I was practicing on my own 125 after I passed my CBT and I went into a 60mph area for the first time. Once I got above 50mph I felt like Han Solo doing the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.

Having purchased my first ever bike last week, 125cc on my CBT, I sat there in the car park, sat on this bike with the keys in hand thinking "what am I doing". The dealer asked "You OK", I replied "Yeah, thank you".. That was a lie, I was nervous but excited and ******** myself.

I drove away from the dealer... massive smile within seconds then had to go onto a dual carriageway to get home :D

Coming off the slip road, did my life saver, big lorry, **** myself, he changes lane so all clear, opened her up and from that moment, I knew this was the life for me. Definitely get the Han Solo reference, a truly magical experience that first time.
Tried to do a life saver when going what felt like 88.8mph, as what @tom_e said, I nearly got whiplash

Nerves, excitement, smiles and a little bit of wee all at the same time.

Just a quick question, who do you guys use for insurance ? and will I be a new user or can I use my driving years ?
Using Bikesure currently but generally whoever comes out best on the comparison sites. Unfortunately unless you call around and find an understanding insurer you'll generally be treated the same as someone who has never been on the road before.

Is classed as a new driver BUT remember for insurance purposes, you have had your provisional licence since you started learning to drive a car.

Saying that, I messed up and thought it meant been riding CBT but turns out did not affect the price at all.

Swinton were the best for me, the comparison sites were not that great but I know can vary.

Being older definitely helps. I pay £200 fully comp on my CBF125 as a new CBT rider.

I know the decision has already been made (congratulations!) but I still thought this anecdote was worth sharing.

I recently did a bike track day at Thruxton, one of the fastest circuits in the UK. A guy in his 70s turned up on a Yamaha T Max scooter. A lot of the others were making comments about how it would be dangerous as he would be creating a rolling block.

He kicked ass on that thing. He was overtaking litre bikes in the corners doing in excess of 100.

So yeah, scooters can be cool. Even better if you have a blade sitting side-saddle on the back :D
