Too Old ? ?

Well I'm now CBT road legal, probably half a stone lighter (it was 30 degrees) but raring to get out on the highway on 2 wheels (which arrives on Friday)
Thanks for all the advice guys, I arrived ruddy nervous but was put at ease before we even went inside to begin. Loved every minute of the day despite being a sweaty mess by the end of the ride out.

How did you feel when you went out on the road for the first time?

Had you rode a bike before? I had a mini session before CBT so was comfortable with riding/gear changing etc before did CBT.

Congrats!

I can highly recommend the mesh jackets for summer riding, lovely having some proper air flow. Something like the Dainese Air Frame or RST ventilator jackets.

I much prefer my winter jacket for summer riding, it's the best

Full disclosure, it is the only jacket I have - lol

Is textile though so when batting along, you do get some air flow.

I'm sweating just thinking about putting my normal textile jacket on  Honestly it was a game changer when I bought my first mesh jacket, feels like you're not wearing one when you're moving still slightly boil in the bag if you get caught at the lights for a while though.

Nervous/excited/tense/angry at times, it gave me a whole new respect for bikers as the caution/awareness levels ramp up massively.
Only ever messed about offroad on mates bike but never on the road.

Funnily enough my winter textile jacket and trousers were also better than my leather jacket and jeans in really hot weather. The lining comes out and they have big flaps on the chest and thighs that open up for really great airflow.

Don't feel pressured by other drivers or riders to go faster than you feel comfortable. Also don't feel pressure to filter until you feel safe and ready to do it. I felt a bit of a plank queuing in traffic on a tiny 125 when I got my CBT. But I knew I didn't have the skills needed at that time to safely filter through it. So I waited patiently until I became more confident (and more importantly more skilled and aware).

Congrats FB, Its a great feeling when you get that tick in the box!! I passed my DAS a couple of weeks back but haven't got a bike to ride yet, I keep trawling Autotrader for something nearby but not found anything that tickles my fancy just yet.

I feel like a numpty at times sat in traffic, may occassionally filter but I know my limits.

All about enjoying the ride but most importantly, staying alive.

Can't envision any over confident riding any time soon, just keep it simple and don't scratch the paintwork (or me)

I had this too. Took a couple of months to get the confidence up but now I'm pretty deft at carving through traffic.

I will say that it's very much dependent on my mood and tiredness levels, my ability to carve traffic on a Monday morning is spectacularly different to 4pm on a Friday :D

Ride to your ability and realise that your senses won't always be at Defcon 1 and you'll be fine.

Take it easy as said above, you're already quicker than 99% of the traffic on the roads, you've got nothing to prove.

Just a quick insurance query, I assume my bike licence would be UK provisional with only having my CBT ? It's not a very clear website and I want to get it right.
