After watching the first part, I've come to the conclusion that whoever got that private number plate either couldn't get one with 928 or was a complete moron and got the 2 and 8 the wrong way around.

For those interested, other plates were made for the final football game and read as the naughty word below..

BE11 END

Still, thought it was decent and the scenery was fantastic.

I personally do not see why H 982 FLK would be classed as offensive to anyone, or why they would even care.

I wouldn't have even noticed if it wasn't for all the attention it has got. Can't see what all the fuss is about.

Pretty obvious? They go to Argentina and use a Falklands related plate...

"The Falklands War began on April 2, 1982, when Argentine troops landed in the Falkland Islands."

"During the war, Britain suffered 258 killed and 777 wounded. In addition, 2 destroyers, 2 frigates, and 2 auxiliary vessels were sunk. For Argentina, the Falklands War cost 649 killed, 1,068 wounded, and 11,313 captured. In addition, the Argentine Navy lost a submarine, a light cruiser, and 75 fixed-wing aircraft."

I couldn't care less but I can see why Argentinians and Britians might, especially those associated with the event.

I thought both episodes were pretty poor tbh. :p

So you think Clarkson should have bought the only other manual 928 for sale, which was in worse condition, just because of the plate?

He's many things, but he's not an idiot.

Have to disagree, the meaning for Idiot describes him perfectly. He makes a habit of doing this and therefore my comment remains!

I didn't see these secondary plates, have a pic?

Landscape was indeed stunning!

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the 'controversy' generated over this was just the BBC trying to generate more publicity (sales) for TG, since if this issue hadn't been in the papers before the show, I'm not sure I would have noticed the significance of the plate, and why would your average Argentinian?

I'm inclined to think that the plate wasn't deliberate, but I do think it was noticed pretty early on and TG decided to just carry on and poke a bit of fun.

Doesn't really excuse the actions of the Argentinian BNP mind. How many times do they have to be told that the Falklands don't want to be part of their country? The ignorance is astounding.

I agree. The idea that they chose that car specifically for that plate is absurd, but they probably did notice fairly early on and thought 'meh'
They do have a history of highlighting amusing plates (CTUxxxN anagram springs to mind)

Also Clarkson has praised the 928 for years, and a late model manual is the ultimate so I can see why he got it.
