Top Gun: Maverick

Nice to see that they are actually attempting a proper sequel that can stand on it's own legs. None of this, remake, reimagining, rebooting nonsense that has failed so many times.

I feel the need... the need for speed... and whatever barbiturates on the side will get me through what I anticipate to be yet another abysmal Hollyweird attempt to capitalise on past glories in lieu of coming up with new and interesting films.
Domino's Pizza will possibly have the same effect, but would be the more expensive option....

is it just my age, or does that trailer still not tell you a damn thing about what the plot is?

i predict Ed Harris goes to top secret tester pilot Maverick (fly by scene in trailer) to teach at Top Gun after a pilot is lost in a combat at the start of the film to moves they’ve never seen by enemy pilots, then Maverick goes and teaches the kids his moves at Top Gun to then fight along side them at the finale of the movie, and the final scenes are him back at home flying off in his Mustang into the sunset.

My own theory is. When you see the Tomcat shot at the start, that will be set in the past with Mavericks last flight when they decommission the plane. Along with it he's taken off active duty and semi retires. Orders from above the seen command characters says they want Top Gun school to have real world experience, and Maverick the only still active pilot with real world dog fighting experience in the last X years is asked to come back to teach the new generation what they need to know.
The high altitude plane could be him re-conning where ever in "made-up-istan", dicovering splinter army people ( who cares?), hence attacking/defending dog fight at the end.

I recall years back Tom was attached to a plan for a flick about a US squadron based in the UK during WW2 [think Memphis Belle w/ fighters] but seems to have fizzled out. Shame, I love props and dogfights rather than jets and twatting something w/ a missile from 10 miles away.

But, at least in the original Top Gun, they do have all the unrealistic dog fights up close rather than the more realistic (but less exciting on film) firing a missile out of sight and returning to the carrier. I'd assume this new Top Gun (based on the latest trailer of him flying close between two of them etc..) is going to contain a fair bit of dogfighting too.
