Torchlight II

of course it's a Diablo clone, for all the reasons given to you. It's ok that you didnt understand the connection between the TL and Diablo/D2 development houses. But if you're going to bash a game it would be wiser to understand a little about said game/dev team.

Anyway, managed to get 90 minutes of TL2 last night before bed, loved every second and the time flew by, went Outsider with a little ferret pet :) Considering I purchased this and the original Torchlight for £15 I would have to say its been a top buy (far better than dropping 3 or 4 times as much for D3).

Just need to prioritise my gaming time now, GW2, TL2, BlackMesa are all screaming for decent hours to be sunk into them, aaaand I have Batman AC and Skyrim still calling me :(

I understood the connection perfectly fine, I was pointing out the fact I don't see the point in making a near identical game. Yes it may work well, but continuing to imitate games isn't going to help development.

Hi Guys,

This is possibly a stupid question but is this game anything like Dragon Age Origins?

I really loved that game and i'm looking for something similar.

Nope, nothing like it in terms of gameplay. Torchlight is a Diablo-esque hack 'n' slash dungeon crawler.

Low on story and "actual" role-playing, high on smashing huge crowds of mobs up and swapping gear every 10 minutes. :D

Some might argue that its **** poor, high churn (i.e every year) sequals and poorely developed fps games that hurts gaming far more than a high quaility, fun and enjoyable experience like Torchlight 2. Anyway if you asked what harms gaming more, D3 or TL2, the majority of people would say D3 I expect. But thats a different thread.

Can somebody seriously make a Diablo 3 vs Torchlight 2 thread? Or take this to the Diablo 3 thread, it's getting in the way of all our torchyness. :D

Just add him to ignore, anyone who thinks its a clone of D3 is a fool, considering its more like a clone of D2 than anything else - a game THEY made. I forget the part where D3 had skill points, skill tree's, a rewarding loot system, actual randomly generated maps and mod support. D3 was a ****** game which just tried to encourage people to use their AH for real money so Blizz could take a cut.

damn on veteran and getting quite tough now with beserker at 14-15 guess I picked the wrong skills :p , wasted tons of money doing the first major boss lol

Add me to the ignore list all you like. It doesn't solve anything. I'm not the only one to think it's more of a D3 clone than a D2 clone either. A simple google search brings up many forums and blogs where people have said the same. I'm allowed an opinion and so are you. I won't add you to my ignore list as I prefer listening to others than simply being an ignorant ****.

Whats the deal with difficulties? Have to wait till after work to play, was wondering if it was like D3, where you start on normal, complete that and unlock harder etc etc.

Will mostly be playing co-op

Not a big loss though. I though they have one central server...

Nice 10% discount right there

Well if you want to play coop, go with the version the majority of your friends have. I don't think £15 is a great deal of money to ask for with all the content you get access to in mind. :p

As for pretty much everyone else, this whole thing is getting out of hand. Despite who I agree with and who I don't agree with; everybody is entitled to an opinion regardless of how wrong you may believe them to be, the last thing anyone wants is for this thread to fall into another this vs that war. The Roguelike/Dungeon Crawl genre is an incredibly shallow, yet insurmountably deep one, it is very, very difficult to differentiate from the competition and as this game has the team behind Diablo working on it, it's even harder. Can we talk about the actual game now please? :(

Yeah, it's probably best. I'll probably try playing a little more and see if I can get into it. I liked the engineer class.
