Tower block fire - london

Another block up in flames:

Non-compliant cladding was in the process of being removed.

Again where is the accountability? Glenfell happened 7 years ago. Even being nice and taking into account COVID that is still 5 years of little to no action.

We have become a joke of a country when it comes to construction projects.

Lack of cash to fix it. Austerity has continually dampened growth so there is less taxes and therefore less money to spend. Tort election bribes of NI cuts made it worse.

Maybe in 20 years like every other scandal the inquiry will finally recommend that the criminals who murdered all the people in Grenfell as well as potentially future atrocities should get a slap on the wrist for being very naughty. Can't be punishing white collar crime as it might mean actual consequences for all these delboy ********.

In a slightly more serious tone it must be so demoralising paying all this money for these houses, them being pretty much worthless and probably having to pay for the cladding removal themselves because nobody else will.

Lots of people have found themselves with houses that can't get mortgages after having their lofts sprayed with foam that was recommended by the government and even subsidised by them to save energy. The foam on the timbers can lead to the timbers rotting and so it all has to be removed by hand costing thousands of £. I don't believe they are getting help with this.

The foam does not lead to rotting on a sound roof. It obscures the condition of the timbers visually so if a roof has been letting damp through the tiles, the timbers could be rotting under the foam. It is effective insulation and if installed correctly will not cause problems.
The mortgage issue is due to the additional work proving the condition of the roof many lenders jus wont bother.

I read it as condensation can happen between the timbers and felt where there is no foam and is then trapped, over time this can rot the timbers. Yeah not being able to inspect the timbers is a problem.

I assume coincidence but been several major blazes over the last few days including the Dunelm store near where I work went up yesterday. And not that long ago there was 2 very large fires at commercial premises around where I live.

The report is out this morning. It's sad to read about the buck passing, and that parties who obviously have blame cannot summon up the courage to apologise for their failings.

The cost of Construction projects in this country is literally bizarre.

They must spend tens of millions before anyone actually involved with the building project even starts work.

how does it all cost so much.... the consultants and legal fees are just insane.

Reading through the early posts on this thread is so harrowing.

RIP again to all those who lost their lives, and thoughts to all those who survived and have to struggle to live with the loss and the experience.

Cheapest, unsafe shoddy materials. Lying manufaturers. FB not up to scratch in dealing with this type of incident. I suppose we will hear 'Lessons will be learned', 'Never happen again' etc, etc. Nobody will be prosecuted. Sad.

A good British telling off, a finger wag and a slap on the wrist. In other words, absolutely nothing of consequence to happen or that will change a damn thing.

I mean just last week I’m reading about tenants being completely ignored when pushing for the necessary health and safety changes. The landlords ignoring the responsibility because no one will make them.

It’s all very, spirit of the law, has a responsibility, should consider, best of your ability, appropriate level of this or that. All of which are essentially loop holes to allow required changes to be delayed for decades until it’s probably easier to knockdown them down and rebuild far more modern buildings, not some 1960’s era monstrosity with flammable slap on.

Was obvious from the start not a single person would go to jail or firm seriously fined a huge percentage of annual takings. It’s not something this country does, you see.
