Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

I don't know if I'm allowed to ask but can anyone PM me a link to Trading212? Fancy trying them out in additional to my current broker and might as well take advantage of their invite a friend offer.

Just fired one over to you :)

I would use IG personally...

I haven't seen anything about IG. I chose 212 as I can't see any fees.

What's the catch with the 212 free share ? Looking at the T&C's it says you have log in every 3 months otherwise they take the share back or if you've sold it, they take the money the share is worth back, it doesn't say how long you have to keep logging in every 3 months though ?

Looks like you found more then me. My free share was with Under Armour, I'm happy they take that back if needed :D

IG starts at £3 for UK shares. 212 is "free" but presumably making money from hidden fees/spread somewhere along the line...

Interactive brokers is pretty comprehensive and well established ("cheaper" isn't always better - AFAIK 212 actually routes orders through IB anyway), Degiro is another comprehensive broker to perhaps look at offering multiple markets.

Tbh.. though if you've got a small account and are just buying and holding (which is what most retailer investors ought to perhaps be doing) not taking short term punts then stuff like Halifax share builder ought to be sufficient and/or various fund platforms.

It looks like they charge for CFDs and Spreads like you said. I cant see any fees for buying and selling.

Will someone please also send me a friend referal for Trading 212. Thanks

Sure - done

What's the catch with the 212 free share ?

From what I read they dont charge you for the actual buying and selling of the share in the normal way at for example £8 a trade. But they do make money out of you by making money out of the buy/sell spread or the bid/ask difference.

Though I dont pretend to know what that means. Anyone fancy explaining it?! So for example I puchased £5k Aviva today which cost me £11.95 via HL. What would it have cost me via 212 Trading instead?

Don't fight the feds lad. Makes no sense but another big day USA wise.

I dont get it either! Death toll in NY is crazy and most of the country is 2-3-4 weeks behind NY. I can only imagine America will be falling apart with casulties soon.

Sure - done

Thank you!

Hold your horses, the governors haven't given their daily briefings yet, yesterday looked a big day too but ended in red :p

By what was it...0.12%? Not saying the swings are comfortable, but machinations of +/- that sort of figure are much more indicative of a healthy market than -7% drops every other day!

Please be aware that we don't allow referrals on here, publicly or otherwise, so please don't offer them or ask for any, thanks.

Ah balls. Looks like I might have a holiday coming then. Sorry Mods.

Playing with the Trading212 platform and it seems nice and responsive. HL has been a real annoyance here on a slower internet connection. I've been doing a bit of trading recently, and the commission of £11.95 plus high FX fees has turned me off them.

Also bugs me that they still send out physical letters every-time I want to add or change a DD.

Trading212 seems more inline with the fin-tech products I'm used to.

I also signed up for IG, was surprised that some guy (probably automated) tried to call me, then sent an email saying he'd try again. Told them not to bother (I don't have a decent signal anyway). That's already put me off IG a little.

I meant the free share you get using referrals, in the T&C's it says

3.3. You have to log into Your Trading 212 account at least once every three months after you have received/sold the Referral Share (whichever occurs the latest).

4.3. In the occurrence of an Event of Default you shall be subject to a penalty. The penalty for an Event of Default shall equal the monetary amount of the Referral Share/s at the time of an Event of Default. You hereby understand, agree and provide your explicit prior consent that in the Event of Default Trading 212 shall be entitled to sell the Referral Share/s on your behalf and set-off the proceeds from such sale against Your payment obligation for the penalty. Please note that the above penalty reflects the consequences of an event of default and will only affect the free share/s given by Us. Trading 212 shall not impose any fees or charges for maintenance, inactivity or whatsoever. None of your personal investments shall be affected by such actions on our part.

It doesn't specify a duration so it seems you have to log in every 3 months for as long as time exists  otherwise they'll either take the share back or the money if you sold the share but at however much the share costs when you default, so if you get a share worth £5, sell it and a year later you no longer log in every 3 months and the share has gone to £15 then you owe them £15

It was highly volatile yesterday, up 5% down to 1% up to 5% again and then down to -0.12% you call that healthy ? But 2% extra isn't ?

Guys, I'm not going to ask again, no more asking for OR sending referrals, anyone caught doing this will either be suspended and/or have their access to these sub forums removed.

Thanks.

I have 25K USD I have been waiting to put in this week but nasdaq and sp500 keep going up. Feel like I have missed the boat

If you're looking to buy something like SPY at a specific price, can always look at selling puts at the entry price you want. Volatility isn't as high as before, but something like a $250 month out can get you $700 a month if it doesn't hit.

My broker doesnt have to option to buy options lol and to be honest I get the general jist of them but not sure if I know enough. I have been watching r/wallstreetbets and seen some pretty crazy returns.

Not sure why the roll eyes is necessary when we are having a productive discussion. Sour grapes or not, we are all in this for the same reason.

Because it's silly to suggest a close of -7% is unhealthy (I guess a close of +7% is equally unhealthy yes ?) yet a close of -0.12% with swings throughout the day of +/-5% is healthy, both serve to highlight the volatility

Out of interest since when was this a rule not to be sharing referrals privately? Doesn't seem to be in other areas of the forums.
