Traffic light GP in a FWD car- whats your technique

My best technique is to rev the **** out of the engine whilst stationary, then when the lights go.......................................turn left.

To be perfectly honest, most of the idiots who try to race at the lights down here, don't even have a car that can challenge mine. (And thats saying something)

Anyone, who does have a fairly decent car round my way usually has more than three brain cells to drive it with.

Oi, I'm trying to wear my rear tyres out :p I love the look on peoples faces when my hairdresser car leaves 20metre long 11's on the road :D

What sort of damage does that sort of stuff do the car? I'm scared I'll break something if I do that so I've never tried it in the 530, even though the clutch, gearbox and propshaft are all shiney and new..

Well lighting the wheels up puts less strain on the clutch and arguable the gearbox. Differential will be put under strain if you don't preload it (take the backlash out with the handbrake on before going for it).

Other than that not too bad I don't think, well not on my torqueless wonder anyway:P

The key to getting away quickly is at the lights, accelerate like normal...

Then a few yards down the road turn into your local performance car dealer such as Mitsubishi, Porsche etc, and buy a car with a proper transmission system - RWD or AWD

FWD is for boys who can't be trusted with better :p

there are other ways to deal with people like that.

on the saturday night just gone, i had some plum in a tarted up c-class merc about 2 inches from my rear bumper on a 50mph dual carriageway.

i pulled over to let him past (ie was 2am, dark, he could have been a copper).

when i moved over he passed slowly which really winds me up, so i parked mine on his rear bumper also.

the muppet then tries to speed off, weaving in and out of traffic. he doesnt get far and is still just in front of me as we go onto the next round about... so i followed him real close again.. pushing him a bit faster and and bit faster again.

.... eventually he spun in a near piroette, but hit nothing.

with a bit of luck thatll teach him for driving too fast and driving like a plum

Other ways do deal with muppets like you - The loss of your licence would be a good place to start!

"Some plum" drives close to you @ 2AM, for any number of reasons - usually, he's not "driving" he's just "operating the car" in that brainless lemming way so many people do.....

So you decide to become judge, jury & nearly executioner by your subsequent actions.

You decided to force him faster until the point where he lost control by being either a plum, or, scared crapless by the psycho who's getting his payback!

I don't think this has crossed your mind, his stupid initial driving and your subsequent over reaction (to put it mildly) could so very nearly ended in tragedy.

I wonder if "plum" is all the words he'd use to describe you?

The saddest thing about your post is, by the standards I see on the roads, I'm not surprised at all.

Well said! Driving like that is not on and "someone was driving close to my bumper" is a crap excuse for dangerous driving. Slow down, let 'em pass and forget about 'em.

Traffic Light GP

Not big, not clever. Just let the other guy zoom off looking like a *****.

My TLGP  technique is to accelerate as quickly as possible to the speed limit but without going above 3,00rpm and keeping my eye fixed firmly on the fuel consumtion figure! :p :D

in which case, it may have taught him something, so as judge/jury/executioner/correctional facility, it may have done the trick in showing him that driving like a 'plum' isnt the done thing. in short, he was put in his place and 'fingers crossed' he may learn from it and then not drive like such a mindless lemming.

in short, i may have done everyone a favour, including him.

What would your tune be if he spun out and injured someone?

Sit at 2krpm and drop it. Its different for every car though. i.e. turbo vs NA and Diesel Turbo vs Petrol NA, etc.

I seem to get it 100% right after about 6-8 months of getting used to my car only then to go and change cars and learn all over again :(

Oh, and if possible, TC = OFF for TLGP

IMO it would be a hell of a lot worse if some stupid driver drives too quickly for their own ability and injures someone, in which case id really wish for him to learn from his mistake in that case.

Give up becuase you cannot convince us that forcing another drive to speed up until he loses control of his car is 'good for everyone'.

Plebs like you have a place, and that is off the road. Unfortunately for people like you, I don't get intimidated by bumper kissing psychos and am very very happy to occupy the current lane, at the road speed limits, whilst attempting to overtake another car, which unfortunately is also going at a little below the speed limit, thus the manoeuvre taking quite long to complete.

You can honk and flash all you want, I won't budge until I have completed my manoeuvre - and if you do something silly and drive into me, I get a free repair and wreck your insurance too. Or I move over just before the speed camera, and laugh at your 3 points.

How the **** did you get a licence? Your attatude stinks and quite frankly could be easily lethal.

I can't believe your so ignorant you're actually trying to convince us that you're not a totaly *****.

Shocking, but like R124/LA420 said, not surprising :(

Burnsy

and what did i do wrong? lol i wasnt speeding (surely that makes me an angel in the eyes of the law).

i drove a bit closely to this guy, whilst under the speed limit, so tell me where i went wrong? like has been said, many brainless lemmings do this day in day out, and it bugs the hell out of me and on this occassion id decided not to just pull over and let them past... maybe it was time for someone to show them the errors of their ways. it annoys the hell out of me, but im sure this oblivious plum saw how annoying it is on this occassion

Matt, shut up now please. You were in the wrong and simply can't see it, there's no point continuing to dilute this thread.
