Trance is so vastly misunderstood...

Well I have been listening to trance since about 98/99 and will admit that back then it had its glory days and all the classics came out in that time. But today the genre is still strong and i still love hearing uplifting/euphoric trance by the likes of A&B and JOC.
There is tonnes of new trance coming out all the time and you just have to hunt it down (part of the fun if you ask me). Fir the record the record these are my favorite classics that haven't been mentioned yet:

In what way exactly is this supposed to change my perception of trance? You've basically posted a bunch of A&B, which most people would class as trance
I did like that "Leaving Planet" track, so thanks for that.
Incidentally, I've still yet to hear a better compilation album than the original Trance Nation (1999?).

Indeed, most people stop talking to me when I say I like trance 
They only think of the cheesy classics like till I come, sandstorm etc.. well if you're lucky - still most associate with cascada/dj sammy.
But TBH one thing annoys me about TATW and a lot of the tracks they play... soo much of it sounds the same. Their catalogue of artists just seem to be recycled - boom & jinx, Ashley Wallbridge, sunny lax.. every new track just appears to be the same thing with a very slightly different melody... I mean even the ruddy instruments/loops/samples sound the same. I wish it was a bit more diverse... like more techy stuff.

Best trance riff of all time, kills in a club.
Nice uplifting and euphoric PROPER trance can be found on the anjunabeats label and similar. Absolutly bliss to listen to. I love it.

Where's Grrrr when you need him?!
I used to really love Above & Beyond (went as far as buying their t-shirts etc.) but nowadays I can't stand their wishy-washy sound. I much prefer artists like Aly & Fila who keep the pace high and don't play the same tracks in their radio show like all the other DJs do.

I really do miss the good old trance days, between 1996-2002 was the pinnacle of modern trance. I really do miss those days.
Life was about the weekend. You would work all week, then Friday night the Real week would start.
The best nights I have had in the trance scene were in Passion at Coalville, just outside of Leicester. There wasn't any idiots there who were out to get themselves drunk beyond belief. You didn't need to drink, the music gave you the buzz you needed.
50% of the time I used to lose my mates inside the place, but it didn't matter - you would spend the evening with another of people who you had never met before, we all had the same common interest - LOVE FOR THE MUSIC!

If any of you like Space (as in the Universe etc.) and trance then I'm hopeful you'll love this tune - it's called Buzz (Buzz talk mix) which was released last year on the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing.
It's a great tune, made even better by the buzz talk remix and the video is excellent. But this is one of the reasons why I love trance anyway because there are a lot of elements in the tunes (particularly if you listen to Above and Beyond) of all the Earth and Universe's natural cosmos - Earth, Fire, Wind and Rain etc.
Tunes like "Miracle" talk about the impact Global warming is having on the planet and it's a sad melodic about how it's too late for us to do anything about it unless we look within ourselves to change things.
Buzz is just a tune which takes me on an orbit of our planet everytime I listen to it. Great artistic work

This is one of the things which gets on my **** to be honest. People have such a misguided view of what trance is nowadays. Its such a crossover genre, with a lot of progressive, tech, electro based sounds being used.
Take the likes of Andy Duguid, Super8 & Tab, Myon & Shane54, Duderstadt, Cosmic Gate, Wippenberg, Kyau & Albert, Mat Zo, Andy Moor. All produce what I would categorically call 'Trance', but when you actually listen to their stuff, it's not your average 'hands in the air' trance. Their stuff tends to have more electro'y basslines or chuggy progressive ones, along with the plucky trance synths, techy stabs, and the nice breakdowns you'd come to expect from trance.
Then you've got your hard as nailz, full fire trance from the likes of Simon Patterson, John O'Callaghan (albeit he's gone a bit softer recently but his JOC stuff still rocks it big time), Sean Tyas, Neal Scarborough, Paul Webster, Bryan Kearney, Indecent Noise, Paul van Dyk. Which whilst being very banging and energetic, also carries the same melodic formula which made the trance of the 90's stand out.
And then you have you're really melodic stuff from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, Daniel Kandi, Above & Beyond/Oceanlab, Ronny K, Oliver Smith etc, plus loads more which keep it really uplifting, vocal and generally very euphoric and melodic. This is the type of trance which in my opinion can be compared to the trance around back in the day!
I don't know if i'm just talking crap but I grew up listening to trance and hardcore from early 90's as my brother DJ'd it week in week out, and I must say I very much prefer what is being produced nowadays compared to yesteryear. It all sounds much more refined and diverse.
I was going to list some stand out trakcs, but there are so many to list i'd be here all day and we already have a mammoth trance thread in here with some beauts in there!!!

Aye heard it on Radio1 a few weeks back that Branson and A&B were in talks to be the first DJ's to play in space. You can tell their new mix of Buzz (Buzztalk Remix) has been geared towards space travel by the 'space chat' which is during the breakdown. Cracking tune though, they opened Global 09 with it!
12 years on and I still love trance, even if there is less and less originality around these days.
Thankfully there are newer sub-genres like tech-trance offering something fresh.
I still do multiple trance mixes a years (doing my best of 2009 mix soon), but have also discovered psy trance in recent years, and some of it is great!

Aye I crack out trance mixes every so often, put that on the back foot at the moment though as i'm concentrating on producing for the time being. Getting some very nice sounds at the moment and hopefully should have something boxed off and finished soon
