When are you subjected to these views? I could probably count the number of times on one hand when I've seen an obvious transgender person. The number of times I've conversed with one is probably zero. Much like me, you probably don't even know when you encounter one.
I worked with two M2F transgender people for about 5 years so I have actually had daily experience of conversing with, and therefore being subject to, a transgender persons viewpoints. As both held positions of power/authority over me (both Officers in the RAF) my own personal viewpoint - a biological man will always be a biological man irrespective of the gender they wish to call themselves or physical changes they make to their bodies - had to be suppressed to avoid getting into trouble, not from either M2F person who were very personable folks, but from the "we mustn't offend anyone" brigade who were looking to take offence on the behalf of others.
We should be trying to make all members of society, who function in that society as equals, feel like they are included.
Absolutely 100% agree, even those people whose opinions we may disagree with should still deserve to feel like they are included wouldn't you agree?
You could easily be forgiven for using the wrong pro-noun for example. I mean, how are you supposed to know what people like to be called? If that person asked you to address them differently and you continued to use the wrong term, then I think you can forgive them for being annoyed. I often correct people who abbreviate my name to Jon as I don't want to be called that. Depending on how annoying they are, I might ask them multiple times or do something passive-aggressive instead.
There are many examples of Transgender people being called "the wrong term" which then leads to the "offender" suffering job loss, family stress, twitter mobs and even violence. From the outbursts of the "It's MA'AM!!!!" person wrecking a Gamestop in the US to a woman being arrested in the UK after misgendering on Twitter and even the recent brutal attack on a man by a group of Transgender M2F people travelling on the Tube, these show your own viewpoint of "it will be OK, you'll be forgiven" is naive at best. TBH this is what causes the most "problems" with transgender folk trying to gain acceptance because, as I mentioned earlier, whilst the vast majority of people (on both "sides") just want to get on with their life in peace and quiet so it's usually tends to be a tiny minority of vocal "activists" who are looking to be offended who cause the most issues for everyone, as the two M2F people I knew were both were unsurprisingly decent people who I had no issues serving under.
At the end of the day, no-one regardless of whether they are Hetro/LBGTQ+ etc should be made to feel unwelcome in society but that wish isn't how life works, thats a "dream world" filled with sunshine, laughter and unicorns, because the "real world" is harsh and unforgiving, where a single mistake "misgendering" someone can (and has proven to) cause all manner of life changing ruin for those involved.
Again, I have no issue with a Transgender person wanting to believe whatever they want about their gender until that viewpoint is then forced upon me under risk if I don't accept it. I personally would have a lot of respect for any transgender person who openly and honestly said "Yes I'm a biological Male (Female) but I prefer to be called a Female (Male) instead" over those that claim they have changed their biological sex.
