Falcao's agents are saying its a obligation to buy at the end of the loan with the fee being around €60m.

It'll be interesting to see if that's the care. Surely Utd wouldn't be that mad.

That makes sense... A simple £6m loan fee without any obligation to buy would seem like poor business for Monaco, when you consider that he's "in his prime" now, and the amortisation on a £55m transfer over 5 years would already be £11m...

And Utd being obliged to sign a player who will then be 29 (or 31) who may or may not have recovered from a very serious injury would be mental from their point of view.

Like Moses says, any obligation to buy must have a number of clauses based on appearances, success, CL qualification etc.

Here's an interesting statistically look at how he compared to other attackers in La Liga during his time there:

I have to say I was shocked. Pens seemingly contributed hugely to his impressive scoring rate. Without pens his scoring rate was no better than Soldado, Llorente or Negredo.

I would say those numbers aren't skewed by number of penalties, but number of starts. Those high up the list, Higuain, Benzema, Ozil, Sanchez, across those seasons had relatively few starts.

Higuain only started 18 games in one season but got 22 goals, and 19 games in the other season with 16 goals, he however had 37 sub appearances. Benzema started a few more games and had less subs, 26 starts with 21 goals and 19 starts with 11 goals. less goals but way more assists.

The difference is Falcao started 33 and 34 games those two seasons with only a single sub appearance, despite scoring significantly more than both, he started a lot more games due to the nature of the club.

It also doesn't take into account that Atletico aren't an attacking powerhoue or high scoring team and only came 5th in 11/12, 3rd but 24 points off the top in 12/13.

Anyone watching him play knows what a top striker he is, against Chelsea in the supercup he utterly torn them a new one, this is a team that defended it's way to the champions league title yet got bullied by Falcao. He was like Drogba on steroids and frequently played like that.

As always, stats in context, out of context they can show something very different. Of course some of his goals are penalties(the only thing I can find says that 6 out of 36 in all competitions in 11/12 were penalties, 16%, which is about the same as Messi's 86 goal record, and no different to normal.

Top strikers in hugely high scoring teams who come off the bench and can inject more energy into a smaller period of time against more tired opposition will not surprisingly have a goals per minutes ratio higher than one who plays 90 mins every single game with no rest... that's before you factor in the style of team, the quality of players around him, etc, etc.

What is interesting more than anything is Higuains goals to shots ration which was disgusting in both those seasons. 22 goals in 60 shots, 16 goals in 56 shots, those are numbers Messi hasn't beaten.

Falcao is a top top player, as is Higuain. Wenger not getting him and splashing 10-15mil more on Ozil instead was is the worst thing he's ever done at Arsenal. That Real got rid of Higuain to keep Bezema is the worst thing they've ever done.

Makes sense... Hopefully we'll get more clarification after the window ends.

All-round this transfer has crazy leaking from every pore. He's a great player, to be sure, but ~£50m and £300k+ for a 28 year old striker in an already stacked position just smacks of desperation.

...Any further word on defensive / midfield reinforcements? Haven't seen much mentioned about Vidal today (for a change!).

Cleverley on loan, then sign him on a free next season. Is right!

Welbeck at Arsenal according to Evening Standard journo - https://twitter.com/JamesOlley/status/506484261810372608

If we buy Welbeck what tiny little ounce of respect I had left for Wenger for his first 8-9 years in charge will be gone, completely and utterly gone. He's god damned awful, like Ox, and so many others, he's a headless chicken with no end product, at least Ox is younger with FAR less games under his belt, Welbeck is just awful.

Panic buying at the end of a transfer window because EVERYONE on earth knew Arsenal needed a striker for two years, and he ends up panic buying the worst one available.

I'd take Defoe before Welbeck, I'd pay 12mil for Long, I might even buy Walters from Stoke for 10mil before Welbeck, at least he'd provide some comic relief during November and at least provide us with some fight and grit we lack, at least that is something Walters could offer aside from his lack of talent, Welbeck offers nothing at all.

A couple of places have reported we put in a bid of £30m over the weekend that was rejected - supposedly we were "working" on a £40m offer but who knows.....

Usual rumours of other players (£8m offer for De Jong rejected) but nothing concrete

God I hope this medical goes well!
