The last time I put petrol in a diesel (30 odd litres into a 550 litre tank setup) it caused no end of issues....

The 2004 Scania that I had at the time had the "EDC" (electronic diesel control) come on and subsequently went on to have numerous injector failures which is - normally - relatively uncommon even with very high mileages.

The truck was never the same again.

As the Scania spanner monkey said to me at the time, the clue is the type of engine, if its a diesel, put diesel in it!

Injector cleaning products do exactly that: Clean the injectors.

There is NOTHING that you can put in your fuel tank that will clean the EGR valve (or help with it sooting up).

Petrol strips the high-pressure fuel pump (and other parts) of the lubrication left behind by the diesel. This reduces the life of the system considerably (indeed in a 100% petrol scenario to just a few minutes) As has been said, petrol and diesel do not mix well at all so you will end up running the car on just diesel for a while, then predominantly petrol.

All bad.

Strange boy is strange.

I recommend 1 medium diced onion with 2... wait 3 cloves of garlic added to your petrol. They act as catalysts and help the spark plugs produce more spark to ignite your diesel fuel more easily giving you higher horsepower and a better cleaning action.

roger_37, if you're really concerned about the health of your engine, stop putting petrol in it. It's as simple as that. :)

putting 5ltrs petrol in a full tank of diesel, wont do my car any harm
tbh, it will be good for injectors and thus will help with mpg
and less soot

The very eyes you are using to read this post should skip back up the page a bit and READ THE ADVICE BEING GIVEN TO YOU!

PETROL BRINGS NO BENEFIT WHATSOEVER TO A MODERN COMMONRAIL DIESEL ENGINE. NONE. NADA. NOTHING. ZILCH.

DO NOT EVER PUT PETROL INTO YOUR CAR'S FUEL TANK

Capiche?

So why on earth did you create this thread if you so honestly believe 5ltrs of petrol in a full tanked diesel will do what you were asking in the original post?

You are wierd.

I did wonder how someone with such silly ideas had managed to survive Darwinian selection and instead had managed to amass enough funds to purchase a three year old advensis [sic].

Then it came to me.... Benefits.

I don't know much about the mechanical side of cars but to me this sounds like a really terrible idea, bordering on the kind of advice I would give if I was playing a practical joke on someone and didn't care about the consequences.

No, it ruins your fuel system.

ITS NOT AN OLD SCHOOL DIESEL ENGINE.

fox you beat me there.
i put a 5ltrs of petrol in a full tank of diesel did 445mls too halve a tank of diesel
i think petrol helped.. but if doing so is detrimental to my engine, then i have to rethink

Are you saying that you get nearly NINE HUNDRED miles to a tank of diesel when you lob in 5 litres of petrol?

That is a claim that is going to need to be backed by empirical proof I'm afraid.
