Triathletes

Thanks Asprilla for pointing me here. I did use the search feature but i must have misspelt something.

Well that review of Hever didnt sound promising. After looking at the website I thought it might not be a top notch organisation. I've never done a full triathlon before but I'm doing one in New Zealand 2012 during a gap year but in the meantime does anyone know some good starter races in the UK south east area?

Best starter ones for value for money are the Thames Turbo series. They run every year on the bank holidays at Hampton open air pool and round Bushy park. There is a pool based one at Crystal Palace in May, I think.

If you want to spend more then check out Human Race Events. They run major events in the South East.

Would like to do an event this year but it's up in the air at the moment as I'm still working on my swimming! (Only started on front crawl properly a few weeks back!) Would like to do a full triathlon later this year but it might be a bit optomistic..

Finished my first duathlon on Sunday. 2.5mi/15mi/2.5mi - 1:25:08. Not too bad considering I was riding a hybrid. Now the swimming lessons must start in earnest!
My 'A' event is a triathlon in July. Got a load of local road races and a sportive to do also - it's all pretty addictive this stuff eh?

Eegads I am knackered. 3 sets of 6x400m/2 minute recovery between laps, and 6 minute recovery between sets tonight. Hardest speed training session I've done in a long time.

I've got my mile swim down regularly now to just below 19 minutes (fastest so far 17:13), my cycling is steady, not fast but not slow, and my running is finally getting back to what I would call proper running - 41 minutes in the tri-club 10k heat last week (I would want to be sub 40, and aim ultimately for ~36 minutes but it's a long road back to full fitness/pace), first triathlon of this year soon, things are slowly slotting into place!

5k PB for me on Weds evening at a local race. Down to 22:12. Should make 21:xx this year and maybe even 20:xx next year.
Thinking about joining my local tri club now to really push my training to the next level, it can be a little lonely training on your own and my missus is bored of me jabbering on about it! Plus I could really do with some proper swim coaching...I suck.

Just done Dorney Lake Sprint for the second year; god that was hard work in the wind. 4 minutes slower than last year but I reckon I'll be higher in the rankings. The lake had 30cm waves which made breathing difficult on the way out, but on the way back I could have been body surfing.

Similarly on the bike leg I approached the turn at 17kph and 300m round it I was doing 55kph. There were blokes out there with discs and 80mm front rims, they must have some upper body strength.

Props to Human Race for fantasic organisation, their events really go like clockwork.

Oh, you were asking about tri shoes; mine a Pearl Izumi Tri Fly, not Spesh one. However, don't get any from PI. I got them out of my kit box on Saturday night (where they have lain since Hever Castle in October) and the velcro had fallen off the strap. I was up until midnight sewing it back on again. Sewing leather isn't easy.

Bah I've had to cancel Bexhill due to transportation issues. Fortunately I've gotten a last minute entry to the Birmingham Triathlon. It's a lake swim which I'm not particularly looking forward too, and my legs are very stiff at the moment but hopefully I'll do ok for the first one of the year.

Edit: in fact I don't know why, but this is probably the least I've ever felt "up" for a race. It probably won't go well :p.
