Well stayed up till 3am watching the pro teams play in the $2500 cash ladder.

First watched this best of 3 between Area51 and Tao of Tribes. Commentary by HighResBart and FishStix.

Tao took first two maps to win but some great games. Area51 has tailspin who is one of the best snipers in the world. Was rooting for Tao as Conspiracy is one of my old T1 buddies. If you skip ahead you will get into the games.

Next was the #1 seed of Deadstop Vs Tao of Tribes. Another good game but this time Deadstop beat Tao first 2 maps to move to the finals.

One thing that really stood out in watching these was how much punting the flag played a massive part of the game. With snipers so good you dont have a great chance in getting the flag home on some maps even doing 350kmph. So instead they choose to punt in back across the map one to another to avoid been sniped.

They mentioned an upcoming $10k USA all stars ladder soon which should be good i just hope they have the same sorta thing for the EU scene.

Team Boss was knocked into the losers bracket along with tao who have both won the rest of there matches to get into the final of the losers bracket against each other. This should be a great match as Conspiracy comes from the same community as me and team Boss and he actually used to play for them so may know some of there tactics.

The winner of that match will then probably go onto facing the best team again Deadstop.

Hey Samsung/Luigi! Long time no see, saw you posting here but wasn't completely sure you were the same guy from TROC haha. Haven't checked those forums in a while.

Do you know why Mat and Con switched out from BOSS? I watched the earlier games on TribesCast and then started noticing Matin was playing for Legions or something. Shame he didn't stick with BOSS.
 
Sup temp long time no see. I dunno why matin left boss. Maybe they weren't doing that well or not playing enough. I thought BOSS kinda died but seems they picked up some new players. Dunno bout cons though. Hes joined Tao as one of there starting cappers i think so hes done ok there. Boss is still mostly troc guys though. Wouldn't mind joining them if the matches were on at a decent time for us EU guys.

Yeah I've been playing for a while, but I'm on a 6+ year old PC so all I can play is Arena, and even then I'll be lucky to get 25FPS at 480p haha, it's pretty bad.

So I'm just waiting to get a decent PC to start playing CTF and all that, watching Tribescast every now and again.

You any good at it? I've only been dueling in Arena, and T1 experience has helped especially with the spinfusor, but I'm still a noob.
 
Whats your in game name? Experience in troc has helped a lot but its taken quite awhile to adjust to the differences. Im not as good at ascend as i considered myself in T1 but the overall skill level in pubs is a lot lot lower than troc pubs so im normally one of top cappers. After watching those tribescast im going to try and switch from disc to bolt launcher. The top players wouldnt use it for no reason but im by far a lot better with disc than bolt.

What spec is your pc now? Will try jump in some arena with you. You around today?
 
Me and Luigi had a fun time on Crossfire yesterday, we kept the flag away from 3-4 chasers for ages, but unfortunately the rest of the team wasn't really pulling their weight so we still lost :(
 
Just watched that match. Great cap at the end by matin. Should be a great game between legions and deadstop.

I dont think they should nerf the punt in ascend. If there not willing to do something about the sniper then they shouldnt touch the punt. Its just one way a capper can try counter the sniper.

Sorry sneaky bout yesterday my keyboard died just before they capped out. We really needed another capper so you could work on sniping.
 
Yeah it was a shame, was quite funny though having a sniper doing flag passes whilst getting chased by pathfinders.
 
The punt mechanic is a tricky one to tackle, I think a lot of it comes down to map design. Punting is more common on the flat maps that can easily be dominated by snipers, Crossfire and Arx for example.

You can bet if the punting nerf is significant people will be running double sniper setups.

Also shrike capping could also see a nerf next patch.

Zynck, same as my username here. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier but I was out and about, didn't play much Ascend at all today.

I'm running an Athlon single core @2.1ghz, 1gb ram, GT 220. It's that bad. Hopefully I'll have a new rig by Christmas, arena starts to get repetitive after a while so I can't wait to be able to play other modes.

Capping seems like a lot of fun from what I've seen, I wasn't too good at it in Spawn though haha. How's flag passing? Same kinda mechanic from T1?
