Tribes Ascend

Lol yes so true. Yesterday I spent the whole map setting up decent grabs to have some idiot grab as I come in. They then survive for a whole 10 seconds and I have to start over.

They should have some penalty for this. Any of you lot use custom servers?

@Tempest. Yea your going to struggle with that set up. Do you have any money at all as maybe I could help you find some cheap used parts so you can play ctf smoothly. You were better at chasing or camping in troc but that wasn't to say you couldn't support a caller fine.

Passing isn't exactly the same as t1. Normally you pass it without suiciding as it passes weird otherwise. But mid air passing isn't as important in ascend as it was in t1. Once you have the flag and yours is taken you will normally group together on the top of your hill with 3-4 other guys who will basically dual and chaser chase any incoming enemies. If you get hurt you pass to them until you heal. They call this a standoff and can suck if your trying to return but that's how this game plays.

You know what power supply you have? Me bingo arenas and frizzer had a mess about in the troc server yesterday. Would be good to get a 7vs7 going with more of the old community.

I play quite a bit on the 4chan server /vg/. I generally dislike the board itself but they have a level limit of 15 and are are quite skilled players and generally work together using the vgs its quite the experience.

Although i havn't played the last couple of days as im plagued with some annoying rubber banding which makes chasing / capping a right pita.

Tribes Ascend Version 1.0.961.0 (Tartarus Update)

Tribes: Ascend Version 1.0.961.0 (the Tartarus Update) is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, May 8. The servers will be down for several hours while the update is applied.

Major Highlights

  • A new CTF map has been added, Tartarus.
  • A new Arena map has been added, Hinterlands.
  • Users may now configure up to four pre-established loadouts (or profiles) per class. These can be used to more quickly switch between favored configurations for each class. Loadout slots are purchasable using XP or Gold.
  • Users may now QUICK SWITCH between classes and loadouts while in a match using the “NUMPAD ENTER” key (default). This is an alternate way to change classes/loadouts versus using the Class Select menu ("I" Screen) that does not require you to open the game menu and is much faster.
  • Users will now be presented with a customized “DEAL OF THE DAY.” This is a deal tailored to the individual and presents special pricing on an item that the user does not already own. The timer for the deal of the day resets at the same time as the timer for the First Win of the Day.
  • The gold packages have been changed. The $30 and $50 packages now give significantly more bonus gold than previous, but do not include an XP booster. Users continue to earn permanent VIP status (which increases XP gain by 50% after their first real-money purchase).
  • IMPORTANT USABILITY NOTE: With this release, you always close the console window using the ESCAPE key. You can no longer close the console window using the same key that launches the console (default “tilde”). This is necessary to solve issues when people rebind that key, as well as on some countries’ keyboard layouts.

Weapon/Balance Items

  • Shrike price reduced on public servers to 4000.
  • Beowulf price reduced on public servers to 2500.
  • Gravcycle price reduced on public servers to 500.
  • Reduced the amount of knockback the flag receives from explosions in air (reducing punting).
  • New Accolades have been added:
  • Investor: Earned every 2 minutes that a Base Radar or Generator that you upgraded remains online.
  • Turret Support: Earned if a Base Turret you upgraded gets a kill.
  • Hot Air: Earned for getting a mid-air kill with the Plasma Gun. (Replaces Air-Mail).
  • An exit speed cap of 200kph has been added to the Shrike.
  • Fixed an issue in which the Pathfinder’s Thrust Pack could sometimes not correctly thrust the player.
  • Fixed an issue in which the Pathfinder’s Light Assault Rifle was not always firing three rounds.

Custom Server Notes

  • XP is now rewarded on password protected servers so long as at least 8 people participate in a match.
  • Server owners can now choose between multiple spawn types. This includes Normal spawning, Naked Pathfinder, and Core spawning (Pathfinder, Soldier, and Juggernaut with unlocks).
  • Fixed a bug in which configuration options would not be saved properly in some cases. This audio/video settings, custom servers, etc.
  • Fixed a bug in which servers would go offline and require a manual restart after the overall game servers were restarted.
  • Variety of other minor cleanups and fixes.
  • Additional Items
  • Fixed an issue where the jet-only option for a keybind was jump jetting instead.
  • Fixed an issue where the whiteout grenade could cause the permanent loss of IFF’s in certain situations.
  • Deaths from hitting a player equipped with the Super Heavy perk will now play a splat sound.
  • Fixed an issue where projectile explosion sounds and effects wouldn’t play in certain situations in close-quarter combat.
  • Fixed an issue where inventory and vehicle stations weren’t properly updated when the generator went online or offline.
  • Fixed an issue where meleeing while zoomed could cause the zoomed-in reticule to still be active after you released the zoom button.
  • Fixed an issue where throwing a grenade while spawning a vehicle could leave the player without weapons.
  • Fixed an issue where the firing sound would not properly stop on constant-fire weapons after a reload.
  • Fixed an issue where de-cloaking with a call-in active would display the wrong active call-in information.
  • Fixed an issue where reloading a weapon while zoomed would not properly resume zooming when the reload had finished.
  • Vehicle stations have been added to Outskirts Capture and Hold.
  • Fixed an issue where vehicle station markers were not displaying in Capture and Hold.
  • Fixed an issue where player input wasn’t being properly reset at the end of a round in Arena.
  • Fixed a client crash when placing deployables (i.e. Doombringer’s Force Field, Technician’s Light Turret, etc) in certain areas when roaming.
  • Fixed an issue where players weren’t able to place a deployable on certain areas of the flag stand of Katabatic.
  • Fixed various UI presentation bugs.
  • Performance optimizations done on Arx Novena aqueducts.
  • Fixed an issue with the voting keybinds, they have now been restored to their previous values (F5 for no, F6 for yes).

All good I think.

Those profiles are a nice addition as I prefer to chase in pathfinder with disc but cap with bolt. Also good news on punting and shrike capping.

We needed a new ctf map. Let's hope its a good one.

If anyone plays today please report your opinions.

The profiles will be pretty useful as is the new map. No weapon changes though or no new class items which is a shame.

Maybe there trying to get the game balanced again before adding another patch that makes one class op. Has anyone noticed the amount of chasers using raider to chase with? If your decent at capping then they are pretty rubbish but the sad thing is most people who try cap suck and the raider armor is a good choice as its weapons are op.

Yeah i hope that they are working a lot harder on balance when bringing out new items up to the point where they really should bring them out pre nerfed then incrementally boost them.

The issue i find with the raider chasing though is it has no way to push itself forward since the plasma cannon gives no impulse when you shoot the ground so generally so long as your going fast enough raiders shouldn't be much of a problem.

Just had a run around on Tartarus, it feels pretty nice although ive not actually played a proper game yet. Must say i do like the new loadouts will come in very handy.

Can't view vids at work. You can boost yourself with the nade launcher by throwing it in front as ur skiing then as u pass over it you put your shield up and boost you forward. Obviously against someone doing 250-300kph they don't have a hope.

Lol that's true I was pretty bad at capping. Chasing was fun, I'll probably end up doing that in Ascend more than anything.

Right now I'm focusing on exams so getting a job for some new rig money will only happen later in the Summer, so I may have it earlier than Christmas, just not quite now. I'm already thinking of getting a budget build like a G840, 4GBs of ram and a GT460 or a 6850, something along those lines. As for the PSU it's just a generic 500w unit that can do the job for a low end rig like this, but not for anything else, so I won't be reusing it.

Oh yeah, I think I've seen standoffs on some Tribescast matches, it's definitely different from just skiing and flying around HillKing so you wouldn't get chained down haha

Me bingo arenas and frizzer had a mess about in the troc server yesterday. Would be good to get a 7vs7 going with more of the old community.

I'd love to join you and those guys again in CTF some time, I miss the community.

As for the videos above, I fear those new weapons too are a little OP and will stay that way until a week or two after their release. Wondering what the flares are for?

Also that same uploader has been posting a bunch of auto aim scripts. Saw a tech get 50+ kills in Arena the other day with amazing aim, now I'm starting to doubt it was all legit skill.

Had a quick few maps last night. First noticeable improvement was the thrust pack felt like it used to a few patches ago.

Played 5 mins of the new map. Did they all suddenly one day say let's make a avatar map? Definitely different. Didn't have chance to figure out any routes though. Anyone else play it?

"Hey guys, I was watching some random film last night and I
(stole) had this totally awesome idea for a new map!" :p

Seems like a good map, I'm not keen on the layout of the genroom though. There are a couple of resupply points right next to the gen which seems a little strange.

Having such bad luck with maps recently, i'll go to play and get thrown in Arx.. so I queue on different region server (Amsterdam) straight back into Arx, so just play and leave when map changes to Temple.

I've not played Katabatic, Drydock, Crossfire, in days. :p

I hate Temple, Sunstar that much. :o

Game looks really interesting...can you actually progress in it without buying stuff in game...?

Yes, you just have to play.

You can quickly unlock the important stuff, especially if you know what you want to play.. for example if you want to play flag capper you'll need:

- Egocentric perk
- Reach perk
- Upgraded impact nitrons
- Armor upgrades

That's all you need to be able to play flag Capper at any level of play.

Finally got somewhat bored of arena so went to try CnH

Not so fun when you're running at ~13FPS

As for the new maps I've played the new 'Avatar' arena map and I kinda like it. Maps like Walled In are too much for arena, this one is nice and simple.
No inv stations is great too, tired of people running to resupply during a fight, and makes it slightly more challenging too.

Loving these new daily deals! Great idea by HiRez.
Kick in the nuts to have 260 gold and see the LAR at 275 though
