Trolling going too far...

So are you saying that the internet should only be used by people who accept that they maybe hounded to their death.

That's a bit like saying you should only live in a particular street if you're willing to accept that people may camp outside your house and make life a permanent misery.

There will be banter, but to target an individual en masse for a sustained period is unacceptable.

These people are morons.

It's more like setting up a memorial in a public park or something and having teenagers vandalize it. Why not set it up in a proper graveyard? (i.e. password protect it for friends only).

If you don't want to be mocked/stalked/etc don't put your personal life on the internet. I don't see any reason at all to put personal information on the open internet.

This tbh

Jesus when i die, i pray to god that i dont have a family so sad that they make a virtual shrine to me on some crap networking site.

Beyond idiocy all the security is availible to make the site invite only but no...

Another totally sensational crap article aimed at the uniformed and n00bs

I think aside of any laws and enforcement of such laws, what we need is more security aware sites and users.

No tribute page of that kind should display user comments immediately, the admin of the page should moderate the comments and choose not to display innapropriate ones, or control who registers/joins in the first place and only allow comments by them.

I am not excusing the trolls, but it's a bit of a case of leaving your car open with the keys on and the engine running and then being surprised it got stolen.

To what extent are you trying to take the blame away from the people who wrote the comments?

about a 50/50 i guess

People take the wee out of people, they always will they will never stop it.

Its liek leaving my wallet out in the street and expeting it to still have money in it later.

The Internet isnt hockey pockey its just another way to communicate - people will take the pee.

hell we have people that jeer at war veterans and repatrioated bodies.
Sure it stinks but its not the end of the world.

It's not sad at all. If they want a website to remember him by, then fair play. Facebook is the most obvious place to do it.

Many people aren't internet savvy and wouldn't forsee such events happening. Just because you aren't websmart doesn't mean you deserve this, nor does it justify the abuse.

The internet is a playground. Thing is the internet makes people change.

I remember years ago playing a MMO and I received death threats from people in the game, I just brushed them aside as empty threats. Gave out my home address to a few ( nothing ever came of it. ) Anyway we went to a meeting were around 300 people from the game went - kind of a camping weekend with live music, BBQ etc. I met some of these people that threatened to end my life now I know any fool can pull a trigger but seriously? Imagine your typical stereotype of a geek, that is what these people were like.

I always try and live by - if I'd do it or say it in real life, then I'd do/say it on a forum.

But Tom's family want more action. Tracy added: "We'd like to see some sort of legislation put into place to see that somebody would get prosecuted if they persisted on posting these comments.

"Then perhaps people would think twice about doing things like this."

Despite the rather disgusting attitude of some people this would be a bad step.

Similarly I don't understand the need to put up a webpage about someones death. I have had friends pass away far too young (21) and family of various different ages and whilst others deal with grief in different ways making a story of something (the kids death page) is clearly going to attract not only the nice replies but also the negative. This happens in every aspect of life, why be surprised when it happens on the net?

This as well. Why force your grief onto others and expect everyone to react positively?

I don't get how something could be put in place against this. It's freedom of speech surely though regardless of what is posted? Or would it come under bullying etc?

This griefing is just the digital equivalent of turning up at the graveside of someone as they are being lowered into the ground and spouting vile drivel about them to their friends and relatives as the mourn their loss.

It's an appalling display of cowardice by people who don't have the balls to actually express their opinions to the faces of the deceased persons families.

They are cowards and bullies and should be treated as such.
