Anyone have any tips?

I used to drink well over 2 litres off coke a day and when cold turkey a few weeks back and lasted just over a week when I bought coke :(.

Has anyone done the same can share their experience..

I tried it once about 10 years (for medical reasons at the time ) and I lasted two weeks.

Reduce your intake slowly (like quitting smoking) as otherwise the caffeine withdrawal headaches will be bad, very bad.

Unless it's diet coke I'd worry more about the sugar than the caffeine though. ;)

im really bad with fizzy aswell mate, have 1 can and 1 500ml bottle of Dr Pepper nearly everyday :( Just cant seem to stop either, i manage to cut it out for a few days then forget and go right back into it!

i switched from caffeinated tea to decaf a few weeks ago.
drink about 3-6 cups a day - i can't say i've really noticed a difference (other than the fact im falling asleep earlier on the sofa of an evening)
maybe (as suggested above) swapping what you're trying to give up for something very similar (i.e. caffein free) really does make it easier!

Firstly you will probably be craving sugar just as much as coke but my suggestion to quit caffeine would simply be to taper.

Stop having caffeine until you get the inevitable headache and have 1 decaffeinated drink then and not have another until you next get a headache. And so on...

Caffeine have any side effects?

It's a diuretic so makes you want to pee more. It has lots of short term effects (increased heart rate, increased alertness) and will kill you in a large enough dose (although water poisoning would more than likely get you first)

I go through 5-6 cans of red Bull and 3-4 cups of coffee a day.

Increased heart rate and blood pressure. Admitted only very slightly so but if you consider you're probably drinking caffeine all day every day possibly forever it certainly adds up to a lot. It can also disrupt sleep, you tend to sleep less well and find it harder nodding off.

The main problem with caffeine for me is the crash. After having around 6 cups of coffee at work each day i get home in the evening with no energy or willingness to socialise at all. It's for this reason i've all but quit caffeine, I only have it now on those occasions when i genuinely do think i'm going to fall asleep at work!

I've been caffeine free for over ten years, no coke, tea, coffee, and pretty much all energy drinks are ruled out for me becuase they tend to contain caffeine also, it's just like any addiction, you just have to be determined to give it up and endure the cravings, if you really want to go caffeine free just do it, you have the capacity do it becuase you are a human being with the ability to make choices.

yep haven't had any caffeine since new years day. The first week was hell. Headaches, constantly tiered. But after that it's out your system and you don't crave it. Just stick it out, it's worth it. Sleeping better for a start.

For the short week and a half I did go cold turkey I felt I did get a better sleep!

I am on sprite atm because it is has no caffeine in it!

I know the sugar intake doesn't really help but once I kick the caffeine and I will try and reduce my sugar intake.

I do it quite a lot. Whenever I go home I have 10-12 strong cups of coffee a day. When I go to uni I have maybe 1 coffee a month :/
Doesnt seem to affect me too badly and when I get a headache I just have a drink like juice or water O_O

Well at least your making the effort.

I drink 6-10 cups of coffee a day, basically, a cup of coffee for every smoke i have.

Horrible things are addictions. If only i had the will power like others. There never seems to be a good time to try (same old story) and quit.

wow brummie mate, im suprised you get too sleep lol

You get used to it, never used to drink that much. :(
Considered going the Doctors but unsure if its actually harming me.

Edit: reading the OP and replies now makes me wanna give up

Not really the same thing but I'd usually drink 2 cups of coffee a day and numerous amounts of tea say 3-4 cups but now I'm drinking Green Tea It's a lot better imo.

certainly tastes better.

I'd suggest trying a caffeine free alternative.

Don't take this offensively but I never get this, you just make the choice to give up and endure, simple as that, you don't cut down slowly, you just do it, it only takes a nanosecond to give up an addiction, basically the time it takes for the thought process to engage, and then you just endure, no will power is needed, you make a relaxed decision to stop, don't build it up in your head that 'right, I'm going to do it this time, I'm going to fight the cravings RARRRRR', that's half the reason why people find it hard to give up becuase they build themselves up before they quite like they are about to go into battle, your not going into battle, your making a simple relaxed choice, when done in this manner it has more chance of penetrating your subconsciousness and helps build a foundation for this choice from deep within.

Seriously addictions are not hard, the problem is our self doubt and non-belief in ourselves to over come certain obstacles in our lives.
