I cannot actually believe the arrogance and blind stupidity of these ******* Americans. WTF were they thinking putting an American flag up there.

Managed to ruin an historic occasion

I'm surprised they raised a US flag when they were told off for doing so in southern Iraq, at the start of the conflict. I would have thought they should have all been aware of the political ramifications of doing so.

Do you think that, after seeing these pics, the end justfied the means? I think we all know this isnt just a few hundred people.

Potentially the end may justify the means but the price Iraqis have paid shouldn't be underestimated. But purely factually it was several hundred at most, if 1.5 million anti-war protesters in the UK don't represent the UKs political voice i don't see how several hundred iraqis can 100% represent Iraqi public opinion.

The hatred those few hundred showed and displayed ata very dangerous time - there's still a war on - far outweighs petty whinings of a few British anti-war, protest hobbyists.

The iraqis weren't bothered, and after the stars and stripes was lowered an Iraqi guy was waving it in the air and he looked pretty happy.....so why should anyone else be offended, if they Iraqis aren't?

There would have been a lot lot lot lot more people there if they wern't all in great danger.
Even after shots were fired they stayed to pull a statue down.
This is happening all over the place now.

I said several hundred were pictured attacking the statue, which is factual.

It's in an affluent, posh area. Most of the residents have fled because they supported Soddem. Watch the telly to see statue after statue being pulled down in Iraq by Iraqis.

Well put. The Iraqi people have been wanting this for a long time.

I dont think they were pleased, there was an iraqi on News 24 who wasnt too happy about it at all.

And anyway it sends out completely the wrong message, that america are trying to conquer rather than liberate.

The American flag was placed on his head to ridicule him in front of the Iraqi onlookers. Then it was taken off and the Iraqi flag placed there. 'Tis purely symbolic ridicule.

Its truly amazing how people try and bend the news stories to match their own views!!

Anyone can see the Iraqi's are happy with this, even the Arabic TV Channels are trying it hard to try and fault this afternoon.

Yet still we have people saying this is all wrong etc etc.

It takes a long time for word to get around when you have no tele or radio. Also, the road became closed after a few minutes to the square, there were many many thousands on the ajoining streets.

Yeah i heard what he (an Iraqi exile in Britain IIRC) said, he said he was a bit offended at the time, but I don't really think it spoiled the moment for him (after the statue fell they asked him if he felt free, and he said yes, and he was very emotional and the female reporter said she could see tears in his eyes then the sound cut back to Rageh).

Its only significant if you want it to be IMHO, I doubt most of the Iraqis care, and the ones their certainly weren't bothered overly by it....they are still happy. The 'political ramifications' of it all hardly bothered the iraqis, who one would think would be the ones most offended by the USMC raising their flag before the iraqi one, so i fail to see how anyone else can really be that bothered.

:)

Why were the Iraqi's waving the US Flag in the air and kissing and giving flowers to the US Soldiers then?? Must be really unhappy!

Oh, and this Iraqi on the BBC is the one that just said he feels like he has been let out of Prison.
