Quite funny to look back at all the social media comments after quali yesterday about Hamilton not being the best in the rain, rain being the great equaliser etc etc. Funnily enough they’ve all gone quiet today. The biggest stretch of hate I could find today was him and seb and their lack of social distancing :p

Not the best in the rain? Won most of the rain affected races in the last however many years. Only a couple he's missed out on.. But not the best in the wet?

Oh and... utter balls...

That was the best race i have seen for years. Also probably the most complete drive i have seen for years from Lewis and Perez. To do what they did was incredable. Specificily from Lewis who was stuck behind Seb and losing time. 10/10 for both race and driver.

I really thought Verstappen would've done better today. I thought he was good in the wet. Really expected a lot more from him.

You could see how angry he was after losing out on pole. I think after fluffing the start he never calmed down and you could see how bad decision making cost him from there. He had the pace, but not the temperament.

He is good in the wet and was consistently quick today. What held him back is what always holds him back - he gets impatient, tries something that isn't really on and dumps himself so far back in the process he'd need a miracle to recover from it. Given both Red Bulls had absolutely dreadful starts, I think it's fair to say that was down to the way the cars were set to launch rather than the drivers.

Yeah his problems started with the start, if he'd got away and got into the lead he'd have drove off into the distance and won today. As it was he was on the backfoot from turn 1 and fighting himself as much as his opponents.

Both Red Bulls tried to start in 1st gear; those around them started in 2nd. Not sure whether that is a driver decision or a team decision; I would think the former. Albon got off a little better than Max but was also caught behind him.

Another way to look at Max's wet performance today - if he hadn't gone steaming into that overtake and lost time spinning and the extra pit stop, lets say conservatively he only lost 25s from that - looking at the finishing times in a simplistic manner that would've put him 20s behind Hamilton, not 45s, which would be a comfortable second. Obviously it doesn't work like that when you account for track position but if anything, that'd only work further in his favour.

His wet pace was fine, his inability to overtake someone without the DRS button led to frustration and a mistake, that's what's cost him.

9/10 from me.

Quite a fairy tale win for Lewis to take his 7th Championship under such racing conditions and coming through to a convincing win. I was also impressed that he overrode the teams decision to pit for new Inters.

I would have scored a 10 had it not been for elements of the weekend being almost farcical due to... well I'm not certain. Was it the new track surface and wet conditions? Tyre issue that can't cope with this combination? Have we ever had a race remain on Wet/Inters for the entire length despite no rain falling during the session? Drainage issue?

I'm all for people having to fight and driver skill shining through but spinning on the way to the grid etc is a step too far for me.

A few other thoughts;
Max seemed like he was over driving the car throughout the race, always a bit too much of the curb and squirming out of corners costing him valuable time. I think his spinning antics were only outdone by possibly Bottas?
Bottas, I would like to see someone else in this seat. As much as he plays his part of number 2 well (occasionally showing the 'haters'...) I would far better enjoy someone showing what they're capable of in that seat.
Vettel was steady and safe. He gave Lewis a hard time passing just by holding his line well. This was highlighted further by Le'clerc trying to throw one down the wet, marble ridden side of the track with only a couple of corners to go, costing him a podium.
I felt that Stroll was crippled by strategy, a shame as he had lead well after a great start from the line. Had he stayed out with Perez would he have seen a podium too?

If by that you mean he's ****, then yeah ;)

Even Vettel would have gotten closer to Lewis in that car :p

A car with a broken front wing and bent steering? Not 100% convinced, Vettel doesn't have a stellar rep for dealing with a problematic car these days.

Verstappen has had one decent performance in the rain a few years back, and now everyone thinks he's a rainmaster. He really isn't, and has proved that pretty much every wet race since. Hamilton is just vastly better in the rain (he blames it on growing up racing in the UK), and even today he couldn't keep it completely on the track with the new, extra greasy surface. Verstappen's wet race performance today was pretty dire when compared to Hamilton's, and Verstappen showed his usual lack of patience and anger that gets him into trouble. If there's one race to bide your time for the right moments, it's a wet race.
