Turn Baldurs Gate and its sequel into the single best CRPG experience you'll likely ever encounter

I've reinstalled the same thing you have with extra mods , i'll let you know what happens :)

EDIT : Go into your SOA directory and run Baldur , Play , then click Baldur's Gate ;)

So when you had it semi working, were you playing BG1 in the BG2 engine by starting a program in the BG2 folder?

Yes as i was using that exe that hasn't been installed for some reason , it didn't install with me either. But does if you chose the recommended option!

Anyhoo it doesn't seem to be needed too badly , aslong as you install the widescreen mod then run baldur.exe you can play fine :D. It's still using the BG2 engine too

I had some fun and games installing this about 6 months ago. It is touted as a one click install job but of course it had its moments and fell over during install several times. Some of the mods always came up as red and you have to hope and pray a bit that thhy won't impact the game as they are never really explained during install.

My chief bit of advice is to install BG1 and BG2 fresh, then copy both unmolested directories to another drive, so if anything naffs up you can just delete both these dirs and copy back the virgin directories without having to phaff reinstalling from the disks and have another go.

Another tip is once you have had the BWP download all the mods, look inthe BG2 directory and make a copy of the downloads folder so again, if it buggers up you can restore your virgin BG directories, then copy the dowloads folder to the BG2 drectory, then start the BWP install again. This time it will detect they you have already downloaded some of the mods and will skip redownloading them, saving hours. It will eventually work though it needed a fair amount of perserverance.

I appear to have it working, sort of. There is some flickering of graphics and other irregularities, as well as the interface being oversized compared to other games of today. I will test it properly tomorrow.

I had the same , make sure you wack up the details in the baldurs gate 2 config file then use the widescreen mod.

Been playing for two hours now and it's so damn good! :D , just follow my updated guide

Which file is this and how do I do it? I'd like to play in 1680 x 1050 (?).

Sorry for the late reply

Load BGConfig , then display - hardware , push the details to max , tick both boxes

Download the widescreen mod

http://www.gibberlings3.net/downloads/widescreen-v2.60.exe

Load the file and unpack/install it to your BGII - SoA directory

It should have a dos style window open up , follow the instructions and run the game as normal via baldur or if you have it TobExLoader.exe :D

Cheers, I will try it tonight when I get home from work. I just would've thought that they'd have included some sort of widescreen mod already as the installation is now darned huge!

The TobExLoader.exe appears to work for me.

Got it at 2560x1600, looks great haha.

Hi guys, I've installed everything as per the instructions, but can't seem to launch BG1. I can't find the ToBExloader file and if I just use the Baldur.exe then the menu just shows Shadow Of Amn or Throne Of Bhaal as the options (although in a nice resolution).

If I start up BG1 through the BG folder then it loads in a really low resolution and doesn't appear to give me the BG2 character options.

Any ideas?

EDIT - I've found the file in the TobEx\Core folder but it doesn't work, I get the following message:

WinMain():FindFirstFileA() failed.
The system cannot find the file specified.

:(

Thanks for the screenshot, that's confirmed that it's definately not working - I just get the original BG2 / ToB loading screen.

Any suggestions before I reinstall?

I reinstalled twice both times different mod choices ( recommended -> standard ). I didn't have any problems regarding the above

Try it this way

-

Install both of them completely, that means you choose "Custom" during the BG1 installation and check every component and you choose "Full" during the BG2 install.

Don't install them into their standard folders. Drop the Program Files. Don't change the root directory names, though. I got my stuff in C:\BI\BGII - SoA and C:\BI\Baldur's Gate.

Once done, patch both of them: BG1+TotSC patch, BG2+ToB patch ( IF YOU HAVE THE GOG VERSION , SKIP PATCH BG1 )

Start a BG1 game, press Q for quicksave. Start a BG2 game, press Q for quicksave. Start a BG2:ToB game, press Q for quicksave.

Extract the BiG World Setup into your BGII - SoA folder.

Execute BiG World Setup.vbs

On the next screen, you see three directories. Even if the first two already match with your installation folder, click the [...] besides them and navigate to the according directories. Why? If you installed and patched the games according to my instructions, the [...] will turn green. Green is good. Leave the third directory intact if you don't have a good reason not to.

On the Mod choice Type Screen

Click on MINIMUM VERSION
Tick - Do NOT install Foreign-Language Mods
Tick - Further Customization of your mod settings

Click Continue Twice

Tick - In the darkest day (TDD) , Region of Terror , The Grey Clan Episode 1 , BG1 NPC Project , BG NPC Project Music Pack , BG1 Unfinished Business , BGT Tweak Pack , NPC Flirt Packs , PC SoundSets Version 2 , BP-BGT WorldMap.

Install or continue for it to download the mods....( It may ask you to verify the mod urls , it's easy to do on the next screen )

It should at some point go through command prompts and windows open up , let it's do it's thing. Then it will stop and it will ask you were a certain mod should be installed and you will need to point it towards your baldurs gate either 1 or 2 folder. It will also ask you what language , i think it's L for english and LS for all mods in english.

Then

Load BGConfig , then display - hardware , push the details to max , tick both boxes

Download the widescreen mod

http://www.gibberlings3.net/download...reen-v2.60.exe

Load the file and unpack/install it to your BGII - SoA directory

It should have a dos style window open up , follow the instructions till completion

Download [BG2:ToB] ToB Extender (Beta 0012)
http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=871

1. Extract TobEx.rar to your Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal installation directory.
2. Run Setup-TobEx.exe created in the installation directory.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to install, re-install, or uninstall components. ( Install -> Compatibility -> would you like to see the components ( YES ) )
4. Click Install on all of them!
5. Done , run the game as normal via TobExLoader.exe

Does this mod work with Baldurs Gate bought from GOG.com?

Yes it does :)

Just install to say C:\BI\Baldur's Gate <- this keeps the root name intact but not using program files\gog which may confuse a mod or two. You also don't need to patch Baldurs gate 1 just 2
