Yep they have managed to infect everything with it. If a device is checked and you have wifi. You run the risk of being done.

The people that knock on the door work for Capita, so it's auto-do not trust from the off.

I wonder how they deal with students these days, for example you could register on the iplayer website and give them your details etc..

now if you were to have your laptop plugged into the mains, in your room, you would need a licence - but if you unplug it and you're just using it's own battery then AFAIK you're covered by the portable TV rules and can be covered by a licence at a parent's address

likewise if you're not in your room but are say in a communal area of the halls or in a university building covered by a TV licence then you could still watch

given that your IP address will often be the same regardless I'm not sure how they could check

I don't know about students. But last time I saw them them turn up at a military base. The guards held them at the gate for ages, while they went around the whole site with a loudspeaker and gave everyone in the accommodation enough time to hide their TVs in their cars :D

AFAIK they never bothered again after that...

Fair enough. You can't un-install mine just tried. If it's logged in they could check the history for that account though, which would prove if you watched any live content.

Do you have to log into iPlayer now?

It's been a few years since I've used it thought it was just open and go

While I'm at it I'll subscribe for the magazine women's weekly another hundred quid of what I have absolutely no Interest in either.

Why on earth would someone pay for something they don't want or use?

People on here are just on another world.

Not everyone has money to waste on services they do not need.

Yes, enjoy life and spend that money on something useful.

I do not even own a TV so why should I pay a couple of hundred pounds per year? The stress & anger is not from just a couple of hundred pounds, its from the TV goons actions.

iplayer works with roku tv app w/o a bbc login. (but logins/accounts, can be just be using a 20minutemail address anyway)

For illegal Iplayer access to tv programmes, IP address, nic# , or some king of hardware id, could be used as a means to justify investigation/conviction,
(although bbc have said they won't be asking bb supplier for IP, they can harvest this themselves) ... why have they not had trial cases ?

Same here. I don't have a TV and I don't want to watch anything produced by the BBC or any live TV, so why should I be pressured by a bunch of thugs to pay for something I don't want or use? I think this is the real problem here ~ that TV licensing thrive on threats and that is a red rag to a bull to people who genuinely do not want the service.

I think he is saying stop stressing about it, i dont have a license either but its hardly intrusive to be getting a letter addressed to "the occupier" every couple of months which you just throw into the recycling bin? I get other junk from places such as Dominos pizza far more frequently than that!

But it is intrusive when they step up the game to post a letter weekly with hand written threats along with weekly visits, do not just knock but bang hard on your door and film though your windows with a camera. SDK Coming here and telling us not to get stressed over that as its only money is kind of insulting and is shows how naïve SDK is.

Wow, to be fair that experience sounds rare, but yes that is unacceptable. I have not had a license in 11 years and have never seen an inspector nor had letters more than about bi-monthly (which are always the generic circulars).

Or just notify them you don't need it and don't even get junk mail. Some people really do spite themselves sometimes.
