Meh just let them fend for themselves commercially now. I don't want bias either way.

Everything the BBC make gets run through a 'woke' filter now and it's just become a jarring cringe-fest. Dr. Who is a case in point. Netflix are going the same way too. I like being entertained, not lectured.

Watching mostly foreign or 80's/90's stuff is where it's at for me now.

Ive stopped on iplayer for years Luther was the last thing i saw from them. Its no big deal same with Hollywood everything is woke audited and filtered. Theres enough backdated content to last anyone a lifetime. And most of it is during the 80s and 90s. They made good content back then everyone did including the BBC they were focused purely on who was best and did the best they could and no thought was given to if it was politically correct.

James Bond and Sean Connery would never of had a career if they did.

Would never have had. Would never've had. Never would have had. Never would've had.

Never of had ?

Nah.

One day people will look back and say "remember when the BBC existed, and wanted to charge everybody for looking at anything broadcast live, even when the content wasn't theirs!?!"

That day can't come soon enough.

The BBC is a dinosaur and deserves to go extinct.

Todays report being a case in point - BBC, first virtue signalling the conclusion

An investigation into equal pay at the BBC has found no evidence of unlawful acts of pay discrimination against women, although trust with female employees needs to be rebuilt.

then have Cary Gracy,( who ripped off the license payer with her settlement, because the BBC chose not to legally fight, that, her worth, as eastern correspondant was not the same as american colleaugues. ) saying it was a white wash from her now doubly secure position of employment, and augmented salary.

The organisation just has a necrosis.

Finally got around to cancelling my TV license this evening. Not watched live TV on donkeys years and all I did watch was Doctor Who and Top Gear(from iPlayer) and for the last 4 years the Eurovision, again off iPlayer. I know the iPlayer is completely off limits without a license.

Really surprising how much they are asking for it too, you can get Netflix and Prime and have change left over.

Is it really possible to cancel a tv licence and never watch anything live ever again, what about...

-Youtube and live streams (including bt sport on yt when they do the champions league and europa league finals)
-Bookmakers when they auto start live feeds after placing a bet
-Dodgy sport streams (already illegal but even more so if watching live without a licence)
-Video game events, maybe some sort of live stream in the game itself (didn't fortnite do a live concert thing?)
-BBC live text might also include a live stream

I don't watch live tv anymore, but the amount of ways I can "accidentally" break the law and get a £1k fine is pretty high.

They don't mean anything happening right now. "Live" for this context means live broadcast television.

There's no such thing as illegal and more illegal. Something's illegal or not really isn't it?

You're not accidentally breaking the law. If you were to watch BBC2 without a TV license you'd be breaking the policy of UK TV licensing.

You say it doesn't mean anything happening right now, but the definition of "live television" is anything happening right now.

I worded the dodgy stream part poorly. I just meant I didn't know the legality of watching a dodgy stream, but according to my research, wilfully doing so would leave no grey area, it would be illegal (or unlawful?) to do so without a tv licence. Or so I am meant to believe.

And you could be accidentally breaking the law if you place a bet a bookmakers and they suddenly decide to reward you by playing a live feed of that Saudi Arabian football game you drunkenly decided to have a bet on at four in the morning.

Ignore the word live and focus on the word television. Not the Greek "far away see" but the actual UK television industry, rooted in televisions, which didn't have YouTube on in the 50s. They haven't bothered to try and clarify, but TV licenses patently refer to TV broadcasts.

I imagine in the law wording it would say along the lines of receiving live broadcast television in your current dwelling.
As above, there's no way glancing at TVs in a shop showing the news would be illegal.

They also refer to online broadcasts.

The people in charge have been clever enough to word it that they could technically fine you for anything internet related, bar catch-up services, youtube shilling channels etc.

We all only want to pay for what we use, but it looks to me like they've got us over a barrel and unless you literally only use netflix for the rest of your life, there is no way to avoid a potential £1k fine.

But they would have to get that past the courts and they couldn't.

It's live broadcasts and iplayer only, that's it. There are grey areas for portable devices but trying to enforce it for mobile phones etc is pretty much impossible anyway.

I'm sure there used to be a TV Licence Megathread but can't find one!

Cancelled TV Licence some months ago as I never watch live TV and keep getting the standard threatening letters, one would assume a "FULL INVESTIGATION" would amount at worst to someone ringing my flat buzzer and asking to come in, upon which i'll say nothing and leave them out in the rain?

EDIT: Thanks mods! My search skills seem to be rubbish!

Just write to them. State you read the rules and are not breaking any laws. Tell them thier implied right of access is hereby revoked and demand the letters cease. If they send another letter even just one log onto small claims court and start a claim over stress and harassment for a fee of £1999 and i reckon you will either win or the letters will stop.

They write to me, And i am going to demand they stop period, No if or but or you must renew every two years i am writing to demand it cease forever as it amounts to harassment. I already got two affadavits from people who witnessed a goon come around my back during a family gathering and ask people there who lived here and asking for names. I think i got decent ground for a harassment claim now to be honest.

Where does the £1,999 come from? Small claims court will need the calculation that goes into that (from experience).

Giggidy.

My bad £999 fee, I do not need to calculate where or why its a harassment claim it is illegal by law. You think its funny but you are so naive... We had a family get togeather and TVL goons came round the back and into the garden and started asking questions to guests. Thats funny? Not to me it is a a breach of the Human Rights and falls under enjoyment of your own home.

I asked the guests to sign a simple affdavit and they did. Now it is a simple matter of asking them to cease and wait for a single letter and i have them. Legally i probably could and should just do it now because with two legal tesitmony they would likely lose straight away.

Where does £999 come from? If you're claiming harassment, why are you going via a small claims court?
