TV Licence Super Thread

Just had a letter saying 10 days to avoid a home visit. The sooner they turn up to check that I'm not in fact watching any TV, the better. Never watched TV outside of streaming services since uni over a decade ago, never had to pay the license.

They'll most likely turn up in the day when people are at work. Thats why they only really get old people and the unemployed on council estates.

I'm putting this here because i don't think it's worth opening a whole new thread about it. But I watching Attenborough's Life in Colour, and have you noticed nature shows in general have gone soft?

There was a bit where a Tiger fails to catch a deer and I suddenly realised that I can't remember the last time they showed a mammal catch and eat it's prey on a BBC nature show, must be a couple of decades now but they defiantly used to show this back in the 80's and 90's.

There are a few cases where they do show the kill, but you're right that the kid gloves come out more often.

A good example is comparing the baby turtle scene from 2013 to the more recent one. Far fewer baby turtles getting brutally murdered.

Hopefully moving soon going to cancel and not resub.

imo they really need to move to online only and go under a username/login I don't see why I should fund the people that dont pay and to fund an increasingly commercial entity.

Think the TV licence is bad, radio license for work is about 280 odd quid a year.
Gaffer told them he had a radio so they automatically back date a years payment plus the year to date.

This is my only complaint, really. I'm happy enough with the funding model as it is, but I feel they need to prevent those who don't pay from using the service - it's basically theft. Unfortunately, the online login system doesn't really solve the problem as you can see with Netflix, Amazon etc. with login shares.

they're fixing that with 2FA and regular calls to the account holders phone ... they rekon they loose a 1/4 of their revenue.

My complaint is the bbc's mandated diversity/woke strategy ... but, that's probably attracting netflix acolytes.

edit: netflix's next woke (controversial misrepresentation ) endeavor, coincidentally just advertised r4today

Netflix are going to force 2FA? I can't see that being very popular!

I would imagine the 2fa addition would be to prevent stolen login details being used, not to prevent deliberate login sharing as the 2fa request will come with a "trust this device" option.

Yep, PRS or PPS I think its called but now amalgamated. About 400 here and yes, when they first call they ask lots of questions and if the person answering says you have had a radio for 5 years you get a lovely backdated invoice that they chaise you down like you are a criminal till you pay.

Hope so, i share a Netflix login with my brothers....it'd be annoying to have that loophole closed.

I pay for the 4 screens at once option and I share my login with my brother and my mother-in-law. The other 2 are used in my household. If they removed that facility then I'd be looking for an option to downgrade to one screen with UHD which I don't think is currently possible.

To be honest, I think the 4 screen option is designed to be shared anyway. It's the people that pass login details out at work/school etc that they are probably keen to target, although the way the service works they can surely identify that easily?
